Schecter Electric Guitar Love
A Schecter guitar is no ordinary musical instrument. They have been the pride of Van Nuys, California since the late 1970's when artists such as Pete Townsend insisted on their custom quality for his collection.
It was 1984 when I saw my first Schecter electric guitar. I'll never forget how beautiful it was! At first sight I thought it was a Rickenbacker or other similar high-end guitar. When I took a closer look I saw the Schecter name and I was in love. It was a gorgeous cherry red with black hardware and a pearl binding on the body and the neck. The body was a solid mahogany with a thin maple veneer cap for sound brightening and the neck was a 3-piece construction of mahogany and an ebony fretboard.
I still remember the dark sweet tones that came out of that work of art. The pickups were similar to a Seymour Duncan combo that I've always loved: a '59 paired with a JB. The '59ish neck really brought out the deep, rich, bluesy tones that any mahogany based guitar can achieve and the JBish bridge pickup took the distortion to a level that this guitar could handle with no problem. I refer to the pickups in that sense because I no longer remember what the original Schecter pickups were called.
After owning many different guitar instruments I was really impressed by this new Schecter and had decided to add one to my lineup. Now, the only drawback to owning one of these babies was the price tag. They definitely weren't cheap but that goes with the flow of being built in a very exclusive custom guitar shop. The price was only an initial shock and then I realized that owning one of these guitars back in the early days was an opportunity to be part of Schecter history.
That was 26 years ago and I am proud to say that I still have the old girl and it sounds better that the first day I played it, just as any aging piece of wood should sound. I definitely don't gig with this guitar because I just don't want to risk anything happening to it. I play it at home and when I sit around playing with friends. There are 2 more Schecter guitars added to my collection since the first one and they get a special place on a rack of there own as well.
I have loved this brand of guitar since the first day I set eyes on one and I will be loyal to them for all eternity.
