The Seattle Seahawks

Could arguably be one of the worst teams inthe NFL and still have a shot at hosting a playoff game for the upcoming 2011 Superbowl. The Seahawks rank 29th in total offense out of 32 NFL teams while their defense isn't much better ranking 28th. Seattle has been outscored 65-126 out of their last four games winning only one of those to NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals.

You can't win games without a rushing attack. Seattle is ranked 30th in Rushing yards with only two other teams ahead of the Seahawks for last place in the NFL. Seattle aquired former Buffalo Bills Marshawn Lynch in a recent trade to help get the running game going. With a name like "Beast Mode" I too would expect big things from former Cal star RB. In the Seahawks last game against the saints Marshawn Lynch had 7 carries for 36 yards averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Not horrible I guess....if you exclude the crucial two game changing fumbles and dropped passes Lynch had giving the Seahawks zero chance of staying competitive against a put together Saints team who had lost to the Arizona Cardinals previously this season.

The only glimmer of hope I see in this Seahawks Offense comes from comeback player of the year and former USC standout WR Mike Williams. Talk about a comeback, your talking about a former top 10 NFL draft pick in 2005 by the Detroit Lions only to be branded as a bust and later traded to teams who never gave Williams a decent shot. Pete Carrol, Seattles newly aquired head coach brought Williams in for a workout and was not surprised the way things turned out being his former USC coach. Williams has shattered his past three seasons combined numbers in receptions, yards and touch downs and secured his spot as Seattles number one WR and "go to guy". If Seattle can keep Russell Okung healthy and get some chemistry going with their Offensive Line they may still have a shot. That Offensive line really needs to open up some holes for the running backs and do a better job of protecting Hasselbeck.

Seattles Defense is not much better which surprises me. Seattle has spent two of their last three top ten draft picks on defensive players and still is ranked close to last in points given up this season. Aaron Curry was drafted before NY Jets Mark Sanchez, shouldn't we have bigger expectations? I will repeat, Seattle gave up on Mark Sanchez for Aaron Curry, let's see some production here.

Bottom line is that amist Seattles implosion and self destruction this year they are actually still on track to win the NFC West this year and even host the first round of the NFC Playoffs this year! If their wide receivers Ben Obomanu and Mike Williams continue to play at their current calibre and the Offensive Line can get it together and open up the run game, the Seahawks have a shot at going deep into the playoffs. Pete Carrol needs to focus on the Offensive Line and go over some new strategies with Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley. If the Seahawks can win three more games I think they actually will be one of the worst teams to host a playoff game this year and actually win it.
