Selecting A Mini Fridge

Mini refrigerators are the latest development in the world of fridges. These fridges sometimes called compact fridges, are great if you have limited space or just need a second fridge at home for your bottles, beers and juices. Most of them are sized to fit on or under desks making them great for college students living away from home, or office workers who don't have facilitates near by.


Such is the boom in the compact mini refrigerator market, there are now a multitude of different specification and sized models available on the market, and due to their size they are easy to shop for on the internet with delivery prices being very reasonable. So you are looking for a mini fridge but how do you sort out the wheat from the chaff and avoid being distracted down more glamorous avenues than making the utilitarian choice that will best suit your circumstances and needs?



Initially you are going to have to think about what size of fridge you really need. Most compacts range in size from 1.1 Cu ft through to about 3.8 Cu ft. Consider where you are going to put the fridge and just what you intend to store in the fridge. If you just need a drinks fridge then maybe a smaller size will do, if your living away from home and intend to store a few more necessities then maybe a larger size would be better. If you are going to place the fridge on a desk then a smaller size will be more appropriate, if you've got a corner space in a room then maybe larger options may give you better flexibility. Size is often related to weight so expect larger models to be heavier and not as portable as the smallest models.


What sort of storage are you after? Are you looking for a freezer compartment or an ice maker? Will you need one shelf or two shelves? Do you need door compartments? If you have a clear idea on what you intend storing and in what kind of volume choosing the storage characteristics of your fridge should be easy.


Do you need a design classic or a plain workhorse? These days you can get all sorts of fridge design from the plain white to the latest in brushed aluminium finish or funky colours such as scarlet red or lemon yellow. Before you go shop consider whether these characteristics are important to you to eliminate some of the chaff.


Are you a green consumer or just like to keep running costs down? Either way you want to look out for energy star compliant models that are better for the environment and cheaper on the electric bills. The latest wave of compressor free technology has arrived meaning as well as energy saving and reduced running costs you can also get a whisper quite refrigerator whilst you sit back thinking about saving the plant and counting your pennies at the same time!
