Set Your Gardens Beauty Free with Outdoor Lighting
Using garden lights to illuminate your landscaping
masterpieces is a great idea. Especially come spring and summer you will not
want to let the nighttime stop people driving by (and yourself) from being able
to admire the fine work you have done with your flowers, shrubbery, bushes, and
wood chips.
I am actually of the opinion that if you really do your lighting right, the garden looks even better after the sun sets than it does before. But I have always been a night person. I just like the contrast and the highlighting that is available through this method. You can really clock out what you are not impressed with and put a "frame" around the favorite parts of your yard.
But we can't just concentrate on the value to passersby.
Garden lights probably give the most value to their very owners. Especially if
you also decorate your back yard with them, then you will be more likely to be
able to walk out on the deck, porch, or patio and enjoy the scenery. Look at
the lush bushes giving berries; notice how the petunias and roses take on a little
ghostly shimmer as a result of your lighting job.
You can really soak in the atmosphere of your garden in a very fulfilling way this way. I just love it. I love to walk out back and just sit there silently, listening to the crickets chirp and the lightning bugs blipping in and out of sight.
You will definitely not want to scrimp on your garden lights. This is not something that you want to be repairing and tweaking every weekend. I suggest spending a bit more money so that you can "set it and forget it". Constant hassle fixing the electrical cords will really bring you down.
Another idea that many people have latched onto recently is
to use solar garden lighting to illuminate their delicate little landscaping
job. Besides the obvious savings that you will accrue in energy bills, you
won't have to deal with the cords and wiring previously spoken of above.
This is a great way to give back to the environment by letting the sun's natural and abundant energy power your nighttime glories. Your garden and the earth itself will thank you with a little knowing wink.
Finally, let your hair down while experimenting with your garden lights. There's no right or wrong way to set this up. Let your garden's natural beauty shine forth under your hand.
