Seven Things That Make A Freelance Writing Career Awesome

Seven Benefits of Writing Online

I started freelance writing online a little over six months ago, and I must admit, it was the best decision that I have ever made. Sure, it's probably not the lifestlye for everyone, but if you're an independent person who likes to write, you should really consider making the career change.

It is so nice to have the freedom that comes with being a freelance copywriter. In fact, I love it so much, that I've decided to share seven of my most favorite things about being a freelance writer. My reasons may differ from those of other writers, but through this list, you'll be able to see some of the benefits that a copywriting career comes with. So, without further ado, here are seven reasons why I love working as a freelance writer:

1. You Get to Work In Your Sweats

This, of course, is a matter of personal preference. Sometimes I like to get dressed and look professional. However, most of the time, I like to work in something comfortable. A lot of times I don't even change the clothes I went to bed in... this type of living may not work for everyone, but I LOVE it!

2. The Fridge is Less Than A Minute Away

In past jobs that I have held, I have always failed to plan out my lunches/food arrangements adequately. My love for eating used to cost me a pretty penny. I would spend a lot of money at my old jobs on going out to lunch. Now, because I work at home, the refrigerator is right around the corner, and the food is much cheaper.

3. You Can Exercise Whenever You Want

Even though reasons #1 and #2 may make me look like a lazy, out-of-shape human being, I am, in fact a huge fitness freak. And I love exercising at home. Sure, the gym has it's perks, but I feel like I can get just as good of a work out at home. The great thing is, I can workout whenever I want to. As a freelance copywriter, you do have deadlines, but if you manage your schedule correctly, you will be amazed at how easy it is to find the times for the things that you want to do.

4. You Get to Play A Ton of Golf for Cheap

How does freelance writing online relate to playing golf for cheap? Well, it's simple. Golf courses charge less to golf during the middle of the week than they do on the weekends. And since, as a freelance copywriter, you pretty much make your own schedule, you can golf whenever you want! Not only that, but there are usually a lot less people golfing during the week than on the weekends, and it can cut the time it takes to play in half.

Maybe golf isn't your thing. However, I believe that this works for any hobby you may have. Perhaps you're a movie buff. It's much cheaper going to the movies earlier in the day than it is at night. Or maybe you like hiking and being in nature. The best hiking trails are usually packed during the weekends, but completely empty during the week. In any case, there are incredible perks to being able to adjust your schedule to give you some free time whenever you need it. And that's what a career as a freelance writer can give you.

5. You'll Never Miss The Big Game Again

I love sports. Always have. Therefore, it is imperitive to me that I get to watch the my favorite teams play. Working from home allows me to do that. I can work around my schedule, or just turn down the volume and writer with the game on in the background. Sports that some people find boring to watch, like golf and baseball, are my favorite to watch when writing. There's something very comforting about watching a baseball game or a golf tournament.

The other great thing about freelance writing online, is that I can attend more sporting events. There's nothing better than going to a game live, and with the ability to create my own schedule, it is definitely much easier to accomplish.

6. You Get to Go on More Adventures

I don't know if being adventurous is something that everyone needs in their lives, but for me, it's a must. One of the best parts about freelance writing online, is that you can take your work with you as long as you have an internet connection. For me, I like to take 3-4 day trips to visit friends, or just get away by myself for awhile. The problem with that is, when you work a regular job, you only get so much paid time-off per year. And if you take unpaid time-off, you have no way of generating income while you're away. As a freelance copywriter, all you have to do is take your laptop with you. These days, there's free internet everywhere!

With this ability, you can move your office to a whole new location for a period of time. For instance, let's say I'm tired of playing my local golf course. If I wanted to, I could take off for a few days, get a cheap hotel, and go golf some courses that I have never played before. It really makes life much more fun and exciting.

7. You Choose How Successful You Are

As a freelance writer, I make my own decisions on how my career turns out. The harder I work and the more work I take on, the more money and better opportunities I can get. On the other hand, if I want to take it easy for a week, or take off on adventure, I can do that too. Writing online is definitely an awesome opportunity for people who like flexibility in their lives.

I have definitely enjoyed my time as a freelance writer and will probably continue doing it for a long time. Maybe it's because I've found a lot of success in my first six months writing, or maybe it's because I like the flexibility. In any case, I'm definitely having fun in my new career and I think anyone who likes to write could do the same.

I'm curious. Is it really possible to get enough money to pay bills with this? By your writing it sounds like you don't have a job along with writing. I always thought this would be supplemental income.

Thanks for reading and commenting FliP.

Of course it's possible. There's freelance writers who make six figures a year. While I don't make that much, I make enough to pay my bills. To be honest, I only started freelancing six months ago. There are many opportunities if you're willing to go look for them.
