Shabby Chic Bedding Design Elements

By | Jan 26, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Shabby chic bedding can incorporate a lot of mismatched pieces. This is perfect if you have some sheets that you already love or a fluffy white down comforter. You can just change out a few of these pieces to really bring in new accent colors. This is also a way to use the color pink with a little bit more sophistication. Usually these bedding tones are going to seem a little bit too juvenile especially if you go with an entire pink set. Adding in these neutral tones is really going to make all of the difference.

If you're just going to buy shabby chic bedding on a budget then just go with new pillow shams. It can help you to spruce up white bedding quite easily. You could even bring in some throw pillows from your living room and really create a coordinating set. In this case, you can just go for an unexpected shabby chic color such as a turquoise or even a gray. You can have a traditional floral print on it with pink roses. It will usually have some white accents to it as well. This is perfect because then it's going to allow you to work with a lot of the sheets that you already own. Usually it's difficult to find pattern sheets in a high thread count even though this is a staple in the shabby chic design style. Instead, you can just go for a tone on tone high threadcount sheet and just keep it in a basic cream and white tone.

Another really great option for shabby chic bedding is to go with a monochromatic color palette. This is usually going to be white and it's a way that you can accent a lot of iron or even oak furniture and still keep it looking feminine. In this case layering and texture is very important. You might want to go for more sculpted design styles or woven tapestry styles as long as it's still in an airy color palette. Often times these pieces are dryclean only. They are also going to be some of the more expensive bedding set choices you will come across.

You'll also want to bring in one really feminine element. Lace is a great way to do this, but you need to make sure that you use it on pieces that don't need to be cleaned that often. We are really seeing a lot of different bed skirt options other than the typical eyelet lace style which has always been so traditional. The designers are using a different style lace for shabby chic bedding, lately. Now we are seeing a lot more of a sheer design style, which is really perfect if you aren't going to use this area to hideaway a lot of items. However, it gives more of an ethereal look than plain cotton. If it has a lot of pleating you might not be able to see what is actually under the bed.
