Shaking Things Up With a Shag Rug
When you are tired of the way that a room in your home looks or if you
want to introduce a unifying element into your entire home, it might be
a great time to take a look at shag rugs! Shag rugs are making a
comeback in a big way from their popularity in the sixties and these
days, you can find one that will perfectly match your tastes. What is a
shag rug and what can it do for your home? How should you integrate the
shag rug into your space? If you are ready for a change, whether you
like the idea of it being dramatic or subtle, you will find that a shag
rug is a perfect option for you. Consider some of the following and see
what it might mean for you.
The first thing that you should be aware of is what a shag rug actually
is. It is a rug that has a wonderfully plush appearance thanks to the
long loops of material that are used to make it. Most normal rugs are
made by pulling fabric, thread or cord through a grid and then shearing
it. Antique karastan rugs are a great example of this process. Shag rugs, on the other hand, are either sheared leaving very long
fibers or they are not sheared at all. The result is a wonderfully
soft, fluffy rug that is a pleasure to walk or even lie on. They add a
wonderfully softening effect to a room, and they can make turn a room
that looked very severe into a very comfortable place to be.
It is important to remember that a shag rug does take a little more
maintenance than a normal rug. You will find that there are some care
instructions that are specific to it; for instance, you should usually
avoid using an upright vacuum on your shag rug because it will start to
wind up the fibers. This in turn can pull the fibers out, leaving bald
patches on your rug. On the other hand, a shag rug that is made out of
synthetics can usually bee vacuumed with a hand held vacuum.
When you are thinking about the kind of shag rug you want to get, there
are a number of options to choose from. The most price conservative
type of rug that you might choose to get is going to be a synthetic
shag rug. They come in a number of different styles and colors and you
will find that they can be matched to just about any color scheme at
all. On the other hand, you will find that you might want to take a
look at wool shag carpeting if you prefer a natural look. Wool is stain
resistant, but does require some detailed cleaning. A leather shag rug
is wonderfully soft as it has usually be given a suede finish, but it
will require dry cleaning whenever you want to clean it.
Finding the right shag rug can really change the look of your room, so
take some time and consider how you want the room to look. What kind of
colors do you want it it? Choosing a synthetic rug that has been dyed a
bright cherry red will give you a much different effect than a more
sedate wool rug. Choose the textures that you want and then you'll have
the rug that is perfect for you!
