Shattering the Glass Ceiling Fly High
A comma called cancer
It was a critical day, last year, the most horrifying one for Marie Cecilia when her doctor confirmed her worst fears;breast cancer. The things started to change. Her many friends turned out to be just acquaintances. In addition, days passed by, some vertical, some horizontal. At times, she thought her doctor was lying.
However, reality dawned on her and what hit Marie was that her sensuality and femininity was under attack. She decided to take it in her stride. After a series of sittings, consultations, radio and chemotherapies, tablets and ointments, Marie began to live again. Her life was divided into two segments life before and after breast cancer. She resolved that cancer could not be a full stop, but just a comma.
Marie wanted to tell her story to the world and lift the spirits of cancer patients and survivors.
One day this smart woman, wrapped in bright silks, walked up to Rotary House of Friendship and chatted away. Several pair of eyes turned around. Her doctor Dr. Thompson released her book: Cancer Is A Comma Not A Full Stop, with a huge round of applause and standing ovation in her honour, by saying that every oncology students as well as cancer patients should read it. The book sketches her life as a cancer patient and survivor and the way she has handled the situation.
