Should I Choose a Denominational Christian Dating Site?

By | Jul 26, 2010 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

The clear advantage of Christian dating sites is that they allow users to find others who share their faith, Christianity. However, some users might want to target more precisely than that and some sites allow targeting at the denominational level.

The largest Christian singles sites do not allow denominational matching. Dating is one place where size does matter. Clearly, the larger the body of other members, the more likely it is that you will find a match. Having said that, the number of matches you get isn't the statistic that really matters. Some sites will show you more and some less, because they all use different matching algorithms. Some are more generous, and others look for more specific matching criteria. Many paid services validate their price by claiming to have a better matching algorithm than free Christian dating sites. The statistic that really matters is the number of your matches that you are truly compatible with. It doesn't matter that you have 1000 matches if none of them are good ones. This is why specialized dating sites make sense. You may be drawing from a smaller pool of users, but you know that those users all meet certain criteria. However, if this concept is taken too far, if the site becomes too specialized, then there will be too few members, even if all of them do meet desirable criteria.

Denominational sites do not, generally, provide for only one denomination. Instead, they let you set your denomination in your profile and try to match you with others who share your particular faith. If this is important to you, then there are obvious benefits, but you might still be better off with a larger non-denominational site. Remember, there are other ways to find out someone's denomination. When you are matched with someone you could send them a PM explaining that this was important to you, and querying them as to their denomination. However, it might be a bad idea to let this be the first message you send someone. It would be better to let the information emerge as naturally as possible.

At the end of the day, the best dating site for you is the one you are most comfortable with. Be sure to remember, whether your site is denominational or not, there is always another way. Remember to always check reviews before you join a site and try to verify that it is owned by Christians.

My wife and I found each other on a targeted denomination site called Christian Singles Dating. Fantastic service for finding a like minded mate especially for those in smaller denominations.
