Save Money on Prom Tux
If you are trying to decide if you should rent a tux for prom or not, well the answer is simple, but I want to explain my reasoning before I give you the answer.
Many, many moons ago, when guys went to prom, they wore tuxes that had tails. The tails hung down in the back and you knew that this was one of the few times that guys would be wearing anything like this.
The only other time that the average guy wore a tux with tails was if he was getting married. Usually he wore the tux with the longest tails and he stood out from his groomsmen.
This honestly was a total was of money. You would expect to drop at least a $100 on a tux that usually fit like crap. The tuxes usually showed up at the rental place a day before you needed to use it and you really couldn't make any changes when you found out it didn't fit right. Many times you really didn't look that good.
The new tread is for tuxes to basically look like suits. This is great news. If you are going to wear a tuxes that looks like a suit, then why not just buy a suit?
Every guy should own a suit. You never know when you will have a job interview, have to go to a funeral ( or maybe it is your funeral, sorry I had to say that), or just about any formal occasion. It is a good thing to be able to reach into the back of your closet and grab your suit when you need to look good.
You can even spend less on buying your suit than you will spend on renting a tux. That is a win-win in my book. Most tuxes will cost you at least a $100 bucks or more. What is you are going to two proms?
Now you don't want to look like a tard in your suit, so you need to spice it up a little. I would suggest you buy a black suit. You can never go wrong with black.
Next you need to get a bow tie! Bow ties are very popular right now with guys going to prom. You can buy a bow tie for $2 and up. Change up the color of your bow tie and you have a completely different look.
If you want to take it a step farther you can by buying a cummerbund. If you have a cummerbund, it is really hard to tell that you haven't rented a tux. The cummerbund should be the same color as your bow tie or you can go a little wild here too.
The most important thing to take away from this is the fact there is reason you should waste your money renting a tuxes. If you shop around, you can get a cheap suit and have it custom fitted to you so that you look super sharp at prom. Then you will a a suit that you can pull out of your closet if you have an occasion to get dressed up ( and you will). You may never where the bow tie or cummerbund again, but you will only have a little invested in them.
Save some money by not renting a tux for prom. So the answer is no to the question of “ Should I Rent a Tux for Prom”
