Should I get a fake security camera?

By Edited Apr 20, 2014 0 0

Security cameras have always been found in shops and business, but more recently they have become popular in homes as a means to protect both property and family. However, a good security system can be quite expensive, especially if you have a large area or multiple areas you would like monitored. Many people have decided to use fake security cameras instead, to give the illusion of their premises being well monitored with the idea of deterring potential criminals.

Fake security cameras can be very effective as deterrents, yet their ability to actually provide any kind of useful surveillance is none. Security systems have actually got a lot cheaper in the last few years thanks to developments in technology meaning cameras are cheaper and easier to manufacture. It is possible to get a basic security system for a reasonable price, but it is still a large outlay. Online you will find plenty of store that specialise in security cameras and some of these will also sell fake cameras. Because they are basically an empty shell, they will be quite light and easy to install as there is nothing to worry about other than fixing it in place. No wires or power supply needed, and of course you don't have to worry about whether it is pointed in exactly the right place as it isn't going to be transmitting any images.

There are of course some minor problems that come with fake security cameras. One being that they give a false sense of security, which of course is the general idea, but this can also be dangerous. If an incident occurred where surveillance footage was required and you were asked to submit images from your camera, you would then have to admit that it is in fact fake and therefore of no use. There is also the possibility that someone may realise your cameras are fake and take advantage of that fact somehow. On the other hand, if you just want a camera to be seen to be monitoring your car or garage or the entrance to your home or business, just to give the impression that peoples actions are being watched, then a fake security camera can be the ideal thing.

If you are thinking about getting a fake security camera, before you actually do, have a think about why you want one. It may well be the case that you are better off buying a real security system, even if it is the cheapest going. For you to be considering buying a fake camera, you must feel there is some kind of security issue that needs addressing, and if this is the case pinching pennies might not be the right way to go. Spending that bit extra on a real system will give you complete peace of mind that your home or business is safe.
