Delicious Cran-Apple Pie

Everyone loves the wonderful flavor of a home made apple pie and you just could not imagine that you could make a delicious apple pie even better than it already is. But when you add the delicious flavor of cranberries to this apple pie suddenly the flavor combination is simply magnificent and mouth watering.

You can purchase canned or even frozen cranberry products all year long. This will simply make your shopping easier when making this delicious pie.

This is a tart and sweet, colorful pie with delicate combination of apple, orange and cranberry flavors. And no one would ever guess you used canned fruit. You can make your crust from scratch or use a ready made pie crust from the store. The flavor and the taste will be delicious either way.

3 tablespoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons grated orange peel

1 can whole cranberry sauce

1 can apple slices, drained

2 9-inch pie crusts, one for the bottom and one for the top

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

First, you will need to heat the oven to 425 degrees. Then mix the cornstarch, the sugar, the orange peel and the cranberry sauce in a medium saucepan over medium heat on the stove top. Heat to a boiling over medium heat and stir constantly so that the mixture does not stick to the pan. Let this mixture boil for one minute. Gently stir in the apples and set this mixture aside to cool slightly.

Next, spread the cranberry mixture evenly in the bottom pie pastry and dot the pastry with butter. Place the top crust on the pie and seal and flute the edges together all the way around the crust. Cut small slits in the top crust so the steam will escape and your crust will stay intact. Cover the edge of the crust with small strips of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning before your pie is cooked completely. In the last few minutes of baking you can remove this aluminum foil. Bake the pie 40 minutes or until the crust is a golden brown.

Serve this pie warm with melted butter or some whipped cream. Or serve it cool. Either way your guests and family will love it and ask for more. This pie is so easy that you could make more than one and freeze the other pie to have on hand when unexpected guests arrive or for yourself when in a hurry for a delicious dessert.
