Dimpled skin, pits, wrinkles and bulges – these are all signs of cellulite that can occur on the hips, thighs, buttocks or stomach.  The effect on the skin, which the majority of women suffer from, happens because of fat in that particular part of the body. There are ways to combat cellulite however, including simple home cellulite remedies for reducing these fat deposits.

Cellulite affects women mostly because of hormones like progesterone and estrogen, which form fat cells, fluid and weight in women. However cellulite can be made worse by the lifestyle of the person. Smoking can contribute to the skin condition, as well as not exercising or being under too much pressure or stress as this results in the narrowing of blood vessels. This means that by cutting down these factors, cellulite can be significantly reduced.  Excluding smoking from your lifestyle, as well as anything else that contributes to narrowing of blood vessels like caffeine or sugar will help. There are also further home treatments which can be used to combat cellulite.

Apple cider vinegar is one of the remedies that is said to reduce the skin condition, because of what it is made of. It is suggested that by drinking apple cider vinegar daily, the appearance of the skin pitting, bulges and dimples can be significantly reduced.

Because lack of exercise and or obesity can cause cellulite, exercise is one of the best solutions for cellulite problems. By exercising and increasing your heart rate, fat and extra weight will be worked off, thus reducing the fat deposits under the skin. Exercise is also said to help people to cope with stress, which in turn can decrease the amount of cellulite on the body. Strength training exercises which target the areas affected by cellulite can help, as well as increasing your heart rate by about 30 minutes a day for cardiovascular improvement.

Fat and weight are also contributed to by the diet of the person. By eating food that reduces water retention as well as excess fat, the effects of cellulite can be lowered, improving the overall skin appearance. Dieticians recommend eating fruits and vegetables throughout the day to prevent cellulite. Good fats like avocado pears and nuts should be consumed as well as fish oil, which work as excellent home cellulite remedies. Salt also has an impact on water retention, so by cutting down on salt intake, cellulite can be reduced. A popular and effective diet designed by an American nutritionist is the Fat Flush Diet.

Treatment of cellulite, for example using apple cider vinegar with oil to massage into the affected area.  Home-made scrubs or exfoliators made from coffee grounds and olive oil can also be used. Some also suggest that by brushing the cellulite skin, the fat cells will be broken up, reducing the wrinkled appearance of the skin. There are also different types of creams on the market that can be used at home to treat cellulite.

Other cellulite remedies, which can be found in the kitchen, include rosemary and fennel, which can be combined with almond oil as a massage treatment.  It is also suggested that sitting in a warm bath with two cups of salt in it can help smooth cellulite.

Home cellulite remedies are popular as they are cheaper and less drastic than resorting to surgery and can be expensive. Cosmetic treatment of cellulite can also be effective and not so expensive as surgery. Some popular products are reviewed here.
