A Review of the Best Skin Care Products That Can Save You Time
When your life is full, it is important that you put your best "face" forward. Having beautiful, clear skin can help you feel better and give you an extra boost of confidence. Taking care of your face can be complicated, but it doesn't have to be. This article discusses several of my favorite simple skin care products that can save you lots of time.
The Need for Simplicity
For a while now, I've helped to fuel the billion dollar skin care industry in the quest for younger, glowing skin. I've spent time and money on complicated skin care regimens (only some of which were effective).
Then a few years ago, I faced the huge time-pressure of being a wife, mother, and full-time graduate student while working a full-time job.
Because my skin care regimen consisted of a multi-step process in the morning and evening, I took shortcuts with my skin care and paid the price. Dry patches, oily skin, sun spots, and acne breakouts were all too common.
Keeping it Simple – Great Skin Care When Time is Tight
The Daily Glow suggests great rules for healthy skin. Among them: Cleanse properly, protect daily, restore your skin at night, and treat blemishes.
There are numerous ways to protect your skin, and treat and prevent blemishes. Good day and night skin care routines are equally important, but they need to be built around easy-to-use skin care products that work hard and do more than one thing.
We'll start at night because that's when the streamlining magic happens ...
Nighttime Skin Care Routine
1) Favorite Facial Cleanser: Bare Minerals Purifying Facial Cleanser
This is my go-to facial cleanser because it’s gentle for daily use, and it thoroughly removes make up (even eye make up), sunscreen, dirt, and pollution from the day.
All it takes is a single pump (perhaps a second pump if you wear a lot of makeup) of this liquid facial cleanser to wash your face and neck. As you lather up with water you'll notice there won't be a lot of suds. Pat dry and your skin will feel soft and look radiant thanks in part to ActiveSoil Complex -- special minerals that help the skin to feel clean and hydrated.
Tips: Wash your entire face while taking a shower. Use gentle circular motions to massage the cleanser on your face for a minute or so. This bareMinerals face soap will not sting your eyes. Use a cotton swab to remove any residual eye makeup, if any, near your lash line.
Buying Information: Cost about $26. You can find Bare Minerals Purifying Facial Cleanser online at Amazon, on QVC, at Sephora stores, online at bareescentuals.com or in one of the Bare Escentual boutiques in a shopping mall near you. If you join the Bare Escentual FAB club you'll get occasional discounts.
1b) Alternate Favorite Facial Cleanser: Bare Minerals Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser
Before discovering the Purifying Facial Cleanser, I used the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser. This is a powder facial cleanser that cleans well and softens the skin. Some say that it cleans better than the liquid cleanser mentioned above. Lather up with a very small amount of water. Again, you'll note that there won't be a lot of suds.
A great thing about this cleanser is that it can also be used as a mask by adding less water and letting the cleanser sit on your face for 5-10 minutes. Also, because this facial cleanser is in powder form, it's very convenient for travel.
The big limitation of this product (and why I switched to the Purifying Facial Cleanser mentioned above) is that the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser is not designed for use around the eye area.
Buying Information: Cost about $26. See above for where to buy.
2) Favorite Night Cream: Nerium AD - the One-step Night Cream
Nerium AD Night Cream was launched in late 2011 and was not available when I was in grad school. Had it been available then, I would have jumped on it. (Full Disclosure: I am a Nerium International Brand Partner.)
Here's why I consider Nerium AD Night Cream simple skin care: You apply it, sleep, then rinse it off. Easy. This simple skin care "system" comes in a single bottle.
Nerium AD Night Cream effectively "multitasks." This one product addresses a number of simple skin care problems faced by both men and women. You can basically toss your complicated skin care regimen.

What this means to you is no Botox injections to your forehead, no laser resurfacing, no chemical peels, no thick eye creams, no whitening serums, and no multiple bottles of this and that, which can be complicated, time-consuming, and expensive.
Note that Nerium AD is a night-time skin "treatment," not a moisturizer. Because it helps to regenerate your skin while you sleep, you don't need a moisturizer at night.
Check out the Nerium International website to see the clinical results -- diminished deep lines, fine lines and emerging lines; diminished discoloration; smoother skin texture.
And it gets better. From a busy person's point-of-view, with smoother even skin texture, some women have reported that they no longer have to wear foundation. Another timesaver.
Nerium AD Night Cream costs between $95 and $125 for a bottle that will last you a little over a month if you use it correctly. As Nerium International CEO Jeff Olson says, you will pay a lot more for products that do a lot less.
Buying Information: Cost $95 - $125/bottle. Go directly to a Nerium International Brand Partner or sign up online as a preferred customer so that you can avail yourself of a 30-day money back guarantee by Nerium International. Even if you don't know the brand partner you are buying from, at least you'll know that Nerium International will FedEx the Nerium AD Night Cream directly to you.
Be careful -- don't make the mistake of buying Nerium AD Night Cream from a vendor on Amazon or Craigslist in hopes of getting it cheaper. It's shady; you have no guarantee of product quality, and Nerium International prohibits brand partners from doing this.
Daytime Skin Care Routine
Because most of my skin care "work" is done at night, I basically have one step in the morning before applying makeup, which of course is optional. After rinsing off the Nerium AD Night Cream with water, I apply a sunscreen and moisturizer... in a single product.
3) Favorite Moisturizer: Bare Minerals Advanced-Protection SPF 20 Moisturizer
This light moisturizer helps to nourish the skin, acting as a primer on days you choose to wear foundation. There's SPF 20 protection to shield against the sun and other types of environmental damage. This moisturizer also keeps the skin soft and balanced in terms of oil control. All you need is a couple of pumps. A little goes a long way. Credit: Amazon.com
The moisturizer smells a bit like lavender and is not strong at all.
Check for the most appropriate formulation for your skin type -- i.e., dry, normal, or combination skin.
You also have the choice of buying a sheer lotion or a tinted lotion. If you are fair-skinned, go with the sheer lotion.
I have skin that's a bit olive/tan so I enjoy using the tinted moisturizer. This product then becomes a triple threat -- moisturizer, sunscreen, and sheer color (foundation substitute).
Buying Information: Cost about $30. See above for where to buy.
Graduate school is long over, but my schedule is as busy as ever. While not a beauty maven, I do make every attempt to look presentable, especially when sleep deprived (which is often).
These simple skin care products have been very effective and easy to use. Hopefully they'll work well for you, too. Wishing you radiant, glowing skin with minimal time and effort!
