Simple Tips To Save You From Big Hassles When Preparing For Your Wedding

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Now that I have been engaged for nearly 8 months now (and will be married in 2 more) I have learned quite a few things about preparing for a wedding and the good and the bad of things that we thought were a great idea at the time. Weddings are meant to be a celebration of a man and a woman's love for one another and if you don't do some of the right things from the very beginning as you prepare for yours, the small, unimportant things at the beginning could end up being some much bigger problems at the end.
So, to hopefully help some newly-engaged and soon-to-be married couples, I have jotted down some tips, ideas and overall thoughts that should prove to help anyone who is planning to go down the aisle in the near future. Most of these are strictly wedding related, but some are more relationship related so bare with as I pretend to be Dr. Phil for a few minutes. I've lived with my fiancée for over a year and a half now (a year of it being in a 480 square foot apartment), so I've learned my fair share about relationships, too.

Be Ready To Be The Most Unselfish That You've Ever Been
One thing that I had to get used to quick in my relationship with my fiancée is that I had to become a lot less self-centered and more relationship-centered if I expected us to make it long term with one another. Believe me, I was a guy who has many other things that I'm interested in, but once I set my mind to marrying my fiancée, she officially became the number one thing that I needed to keep happy. Doing things to keep each other happy and to remind each of you that you still are incredibly in love with each other (random notes, cards, celebrations) will do wonders for keeping your relationship where it needs to be.

No One Can Plan A Wedding Alone
One of the first things that you need to realize about your wedding is that there is no possible way that you can do it on your own. Between you and your partner there will be much more to get taken care of that you could ever even think of finishing. The last thing that you want is for your wedding planning to add more stress to your relationship. The wedding planning process should be fun and exciting and getting some outside help (we were helped a lot by my fiancée's step mom) will take a lot of the burden off of your shoulders, all while getting more loved ones involved (which they want, by the way).

Get Great Engagement Photos (By A Great Photographer)
You're (hopefully) only engaged once, so one thing that you should invest some time and money into are an awesome, create and unique set of engagement photos. If you skip out on getting these you will totally be disregarding a time in your life that you will not want to forget and by letting a really good photographer to shoot them. Now, I'm not saying that you need to throw down some serious cash on these things, all I'm saying is that you should hire someone to take your engagement pictures who uses more than a $150 point-and-shoot camera to take them with. One thing to try is to find an up and coming local photographer (or local college student) that you'd be willing to hire for your wedding as long as they give you a great deal on the engagement shots. Hey, it never hurts to ask.

Go Online For The Cheap, Bulk Stuff
One thing that I learned quickly was that for most things that you need to buy in bulk and that are pretty cheap, such as the mysterious 4x6 envelope that I couldn't find at any office-related store or even Wal-Mart, should all be bought and shipped to you online. Not only can you actually find them quicker, but they will most likely be cheaper, too. This is also true for a lot of the decorations, gifts and what-not that you'll be using during your wedding, you can get most of these types of things online, which will make it much easier to find and buy.

I hope that these simple, yet very important wedding tips will help you get prepared for your big day and like I said earlier, this is a celebrations so have fun planning it (and don't get all stressed out!).
