Simple Ways To Spruce Up Your Salads

Are you sick of boring salads? Here is an extensive list of ideas to spruce up your salads to keep you eating healthy, delicious food. Create a different salad every couple of days by using a combination of these fresh ingredients.

Try a variety of different lettuces to keep from getting bored with your salads. Iceberg lettuce is commonly used however baby spinach leaves, rocket, cos and other leafy mixes are becoming more popular. These can be purchased in ready to serve packets or as a whole lettuce that you prepare yourself.


Fresh veggies

Meat is a good source of protein and can keep you fuller for longer. Choose lean meats and keep the portions small if you are looking to lose weight. Ham, pepperoni, salami and roast beef are popular options. You could also lightly fry beef or chicken strips to add to your salad. Season the meat with paprika or dried herbs for a different taste. Diced bacon is another meat that can spruce up your salad. Fry a sausage and cut into 1 – 2 cm slices. Add these meats warm to your salad to create a delicious meal. Fish such as tuna or salmon are other healthy alternatives.


Ham Slices

Lettuce, tomato, carrot and cheese are probably the most well-known ingredients for a traditional salad. There are many other ingredients that can be used in your salad. Why not try different varieties of tomatoes? Roma, cherry or grapevine tomatoes are available in most grocery stores. Fried oriental noodles give a crunchy kick to your salad. Celery, finely julienned carrot, whole snow peas and cabbage are other foods that can be added for a crunch.



Think about different fruits as a part of your meal. Orange is often added to salads in restaurants but you could also try apple, pear or pineapple.
