How to Make a Quick and delicious prawn curry

This is one of the easiest and tastiest dishes. Anyone can make it . There are so many versions of this, such as: 

-prawn biriani

-prawn pilau

-prawns with noodles

-prawns with linguine

-prawn spring rolls

-barbecued prawns

-Stir fried prawns

And so many other dishes, the list is really big. The prawn curry itself is in so many versions like the indian prawn curry, Thai prawn curry etc. Having said this, the prawn curry discussed here has been made as simple as possible. Okay then, let's Go!!


250 g peeled prawns (You can get this at any of the major supermarkets)

2 small or 1 large onion

2 medium-sized tomatoes

4 large cloves of garlic

2 cm ginger

Parsley(as much as you like)

Cumin seeds or cumin powder

2 tsp coriander powder

Chilli powder

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 Green chillies (optional)

1 medium capsicum/ Bell pepper(optional).

2 tablespoons of oil

Salt to taste

A small pan or wok


- Wash the prawns ,drain the water and set aside. You can use raw prawns but for the purpose of this quick dish use pre-cooked, peeled prawns.

-Blanch, peel and dice the tomatoes.

-Finely dice the onion and parsley. Put aside, separately.

-Wash the capsicum/bell pepper ; you can either dice it or slice it finely lengthwise.

-Grind together the cumin seeds, garlic and ginger. Add a little water to form a nice paste. Keep it    aside.

-If you would like to use the green chilli,wash and slice lengthwise or chop finely. 

If you don't have a grinder, you can use cumin powder and finely chop the ginger and garlic.You can adjust these measurements suit your taste.


-Heat the oil in a pan ,add the onion and stir. Add the green chillies if you are using them.

-When the onion has become translucent add the paste or the cumin powder,chopped ginger and garlic and stir well for about a minute.

- Then add the dry ingredients. That is:coriander powder,the chilli powder ,the turmeric powder,salt and stir well for another minute.

-Now add the chopped tomatoes, stir and cover.Adjust your heat to make sure they do not burn.

-After the tomatoes have become tender ,add the prawns. Stir well and make sure the prawns are well coated with the tomato and spice mixture in the pan. Add a little water if you think it's too dry.

-Stir well and add the chopped coriander.

-Cook for about another 2 minutes.

-Turn off the heat and remove pan from fire. 

-Add the capsicum and stir. The heat from the curry will soften it but not overcook it.

This dish is best served with rice especially basmati rice but can also be eaten with bread or naan.

This dish can serve 2 people or 1 very hungry person.

You can double or triple the recipe, add other ingredients and just play around with it as you like.
