Singing Competitions 2012 – Got butterflies in your stomach?

 

There are a lot of singers and you want to show yourself as much as possible. A singing competition will definitely benefit you, because experience is crucial in developing a skill. Confidence on stage comes from reference experience. Are you eager to challenge yourself?

Here are four competitions you should consider.


1.THE RESPIGHI PRIZE

Location: New York, US

Deadline: June 30, 2012

Genres: Opera

Entrance fee: $100 US / €75 EURO

What to expect::

1. Certificate Award as Winner of The Respighi Prize in Voice

2. Performance as featured soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of New York.

3. Recording of the concert, for archive and promotional use.

Application requirements & Repertoire:

1. Short essay detailing their possible choices of respective concerto or vocal repertoire, and how that repertoire may be inspired by (and/or programmed with) the music of Ottorino Respighi.

2. List of performances.

3. One archive CD, mp3, DVD, or other recording of a recent performance.

2.VIOTTI INTERNATIONAL OPERA SINGING COMPETITION 2012

Location: Vercelli, Italy 

Dates: 20 to 27 October 2012 

Deadline: July 20, 2012 

Genres: Opera

Entrance fee: EUR 70

What to expect:

1. First prize - € 15,000
2. Second prize - € 5,000
3. Third prize - € 3,000
4. Audience Prize - € 1,000
5."Teatro d'opera" Prize - € 1,000
6.“Soroptimist Vercelli” Prize - € 500
7. An honorary diploma will be awarded to all finalists and a diploma to all the semifinalists.

Application requirements & Repertoire:

1. Candidates must present six Arias of a leading role.

2. Curriculum vitae with details of musical and artistic education and of prizes won at other competitions.

3. Recording that has two operatic Arias chosen by the applicant.

4. The musical program including the full title of the piece, Opus numbers, movements, approximate timings for each work

3.HANDEL SINGING COMPETITION

Location: London, UK

Dates: First Round 20-22 February 2012; Semi-Final 2 March 2012; Final 15 March 2012

Deadline: 16 January 2012

Genres: Opera

Entrance fee: £40 GPB 

What to expect:

1. First Prize - £3000

2. Second Prize - £1500

3. Audience Prize - £250

4. Finalist Prizes - £500

5. All the finalists will also be offered a Lunchtime Recital.

Application requirements & Repertoire:

1. Typewritten Curriculum Vitae with particulars of training, scholarships, prizes and recent concert appearances, with specific reference to experience of singing Handel.

2. A short (150 word) typewritten biography

4.LIVE AND UNSIGNED

Location: London, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Brighton, Sheffield, Reading, Cardiff, Derby, Huddersfield

Dates: from Saturday 14th January to Sunday 4th March

Entrance fee: £5 for solo artists and duos,  £10 for bands and groups

What to expect:

1. UK tour, festival and support slots including world dates to Canada, Italy, Latvia & Dublin

2. New main prize of £10,000 cash to spend as you wish for the development of your act

3. A selection of Blackstar and TC Electronic amps

4. Extensive coverage and promotion on both MUZU.TV and You Tube

5. Winning Grand Finalists will be included on a CD and distributed to 40,000 people

6. Winning Grand Finalists to be invited on an industry showcase at a top London Venue

7. Coverage in Kerrang, Q Magazine, NME, The Fly, RWD Magazine, Mojo Magazine, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, Rhythm and Flavour Magazine
