Skin Care for Problem Oily Skin
If you are struggling with oily skin or oily skin acne, there are things you can do to help your skin become healthier. Most important is the understanding that most of us will have periods of oily skin throughout our lifetime be it from adolescence, pregnancy or just our genetics that causes the sebaceous glands to become overactive resulting in oily skin on our faces, chests and backs.
What You Can to Get Rid of Oily Skin
First, understand that your skin is delicate, and must be treated with gentle cleansers and products. The harsher the soap, cleanser or astringent you chose, the more likely you will only end up making your skin more oily. Harsh products, especially those containing alcohol will only make the problem worse because they will stimulate the sebaceous glands to go into overdrive with oil production. To avoid this problem, select gentle products that are formulated for oily skin.
Second, cleanse skin and moisturize twice daily, both in the morning and evening. I know that moisturizing seems counter productive, but your skin really does need the nutrients in the moisturizer to stay healthy and avoid excessive aging. Again, select products specially formulated for oily skin to help the problem rather than make it worse. In addition, your cosmetics should be formulated for oily skin as well. Selecting foundations and pressed powders with oily skin formulations will help to keep your skin from appearing oily throughout the day while helping to avoid acne that may be caused by other types of cosmetics. Most oily skin formulations are water based rather than oil based and tend to be fragrance free.
Third, consider changing your diet to help your overactive sebaceous glands settle down. Diets higher in lean protein and lower in fat and carbohydrates will assist your body in reducing the production of oil on the skin's surface. Drinking adequate amounts of water rather than alcohol, soft drinks and coffee will also give the body a leg up in calming down over active oil production.
Skin care for oily skin is not complicated, if fact it really boils down to improved diet, proper and consistent cleansing and moisturizing, using gentle yet appropriate skin care products and consistency in your skin care routine. If you do all of these things, then you will begin to see less oil on the skins surface, and a major improvement in the reduction of oily skin acne over time.
