By | Aug 14, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

You want to be able to host overnight guests but don't have an extra bed or the space to put one? Ideally, you want a spare room and to make it perfect a guest bathroom adjacent to it. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world. Fortunately, you do have some options. I am going to discuss two, a sleeper sofa that pulls out to make a bed and a sleeper futon which folds down to also make a bed. Armed with this info you can decide if one of these options will work for you.

Sleeper Sofa

You can use a sleeper sofa in multiple areas in your home—the living room, family room, office, and multi-purpose room, even a child's bedroom. If it is for the living room or family room, it will be an investment in a piece of quality furniture. For another room a less expensive piece of furniture may be sufficient. Whatever your need and budget you can find a sleeper sofa that will work for you.

Sleeper sofas come in many styles and price ranges. You can find one to fit your décor, whether it is traditional, contemporary, or anything in between. They are priced from $200 to several thousand dollars, depending on your choice. You will also have to make fabric choices and you will want to be sure it can take the wear and tear of daily living. Micro fibers are recommended. They are a little more expensive and may take special care techniques. Your sales associate can advise you on your choice options to fit your proposed use and budget. You will need to pull out the bed and try out the mattress. You will find a variety of comfort levels on sleeper sofa mattress. Also, try pulling the bed out several times to make sure it slides out easily. One disadvantage is that a sleeper sofa is heavy due to the metal framework for the bed. If you move your furniture around, you may need several people to help.

Sleeper Futon

A sleeper sofa consists of a frame that is hinged horizontally so half the frame can fold up to make the back for a sofa. It can be positioned flat to make a mattress frame and become a bed. Mattress for futons lay flat on the frame and fold easily to make the back for a sofa. Mattress and covers are sold separately, so you have multiple choices in comfort level and décor.

Either one of thes eoptions can substitute nicely if you do not have room, or finances to get a complete guest bed and accessories.
