Small Game Hunting

By | Sep 13, 2010 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

Small game hunting, such as squirrel and rabbit, has taken a back seat to more popular large game hunting. The thrill of sport and comradarie that goes along with small game hunting should not be missed or overlooked. It is a challenge to be treasured and enjoyed for years and years and provides several advantages over large game hunting. To list just a few of the advantages is the goal at hand.

The first advnatage is that small game hunting is far more accessible to many individuals than large game hunting. Many areas that can be hunted successfully for small game may not be conducive to large game hunting because of space requirements. It may be possible, for example, to hunt squirrel or rabbing on a small one or two acre woodlot. You may have success deer hunting there as well, but your odds are not as high.

The second advantage of small game hunting is table fare. Many small game animals such as rabbit and squirrel provide excellent meals for the hunter and his family. Combined with the availability of hunting opportunities and the ease with which one might go about hunting small game, this second advantage makes small game hunting a sure hit for those looking for instant success and hunting opportunity.

Finally, small game hunting sharpens the senses for those wishing to pursue large game hunting. Since small game hunting seasons generally begin earlier in the season, they provide a much needed opportunity for the hunter, accustomed to sights and sounds of the city, to once again attune his senses to the woods. Small game hunting acts as a filter to sort out the sort of nonsense we've come accustomed to in our day to day modern lives. It attunes us to our wild nature.

So, don't leave out hunting opportunities by deaming small game as unworthy game. Take the time to hunt all game available and experience the outdoors as thoroughly as possible. Reap the benefits of small game hunting!
