Well I think there are a lot of folks out there who are trying to overcome addiction to drugs. For example, I know that a lot of people are trying to find the easier softer way to stop smoking heroin. Well let me stop you right here because there is no magic pill it takes action if one wants to stop using.This is a major life change for most of us. It however can be done. I am speaking from my experience here. I have quit using lost the desire to use and found a new way to live. This did not happen overnight it was a lot of trial and error for me, with the emphasis going on the error. I thought I was the king of relapse. I would get clean for a while and something would go wrong and I was off and running again. I never really learned how to deal with my feelings or how to face my fears.

There are several ways one can learn to stop smoking heroin One way is to go to a heroin detox center. There you can stop using heroin with little fear of heroin withdrawal. I know a lot of people are scared to death when you mention this but if you do decide to go do not worry because you will be medically detoxed from heroin by a staff of people who are specifically trained in this area. The entire detox will normally take from 3 to 5 days. Now if you want to stay clean I would strongly recommend that you follow this up with residential treatment. I have found this necessary for the recovering addicts to get the tools or information they will need to keep from returning to smoking heroin.

The best way I know how to get clean and stop smoking heroin would be to go to long term treatment. When I say long term I mean a minimum of one year preferable two years. The advantage of this is that you can actually live in a safe environment while you learn how to live life without drugs. I went to long term rehab for 2 years. If you go you can expect to attend 12 step meetings every day for at least 90 days. At least that's how it was where I went. One will be allowed to work or go to school while there. I chose to go to school. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. It gave me a new out look on life as well as a sense of self-worth.
