Step 1 Update cover letter and resume by adding all recent jobs in the last 5-7 years. Do mention the type of work done, goals met in the work organization, any merits, or awards received, and duties of the previous job held.
Step 2 Expand your resources of where to find a job. The newspaper is still a good resource however many newspapers have placed job openings online through their websites.
Step 3 Use social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Ning to find work. LinkedIn is a website for professionals looking to network with each other and Facebook allows for the same interaction. The site also provides job listings to its members. Twitter is a social networking micro-blogging service which allows users to update on their status and post useful information. There are many third-party Twitter sites that provide real-time searches on Twitter posts. Ning is a social networking platform providing users the ability to create their own social network site. There are many Ning sites dedicated to helping others find work such as Expertise for Hire and Jober Talk.
Step 4 Search and apply for jobs on a daily basis. Finding a job during a difficult economic recession takes time and perseverance to find job openings regularly but in the end it is worth taking the time to find work.
Step 5 Look into going back to school while unemployed and increasing your worth and experience at the same time.
