Snow Joe SJ620 Vs SJ621 - What's the Difference?

By 0 0

Comparison Review: SJ620 and SJ621

The following article is just a brief comparison review -- SJ620 Vs SJ621 -- that aims to highlight the differences (and similarities) amongst features and specifications amongst the two very popular (yet rather similar) electric snow throwers -- the Snow Joe SJ620 and SJ621. Ultimately, this contrasting article will allow you to quickly realise & identify whether it is worth investing an extra $30 to $40 for the SJ621 or will you be just fine with the SJ620 (and instead saving that money) through comparing their aspects side by side.

Snow Throwing Performance

Snow Joe Ultra SJ620/SJ621: shift 650 lbs, 6 ft with a swath at 10 x 18 inches.

They are both reported on their ‘capacity per minute’ (i.e power capability of ‘cutting’  through the snow) to be at: up to 650 lbs (which is roughly 295 kg) due to the 4 utilized steel rotors and have a reported throw distance (power of ‘moving the snow') of: up to 6 feet -- along with an identical clearing width (which is the efficiency of passes to get the job done, through utilising a scraper blade) of 18 inches and snow cut depth from a single pass of 10 inches (i.e 10” x 18”).

So in all, although they are very decent at what they do (where it all adds up to a rather decent 2,500 square feet, well just under, of snow removal every hour -- without ever needing to engage your back, pretty impressive) -- but there isn’t actually any difference in terms of their ability ‘to do the job’.

Engine Power

Snow Joe Ultra SJ620/SJ621: 13.5 amp motor

The above performance isn’t too surprising that they are similar -- given that they are also based on the same practical design with the same integrated 13.5 amp engine. Moreover, they are of course electrical, so are hence more durable and practical (simply push the button & with the ‘Instant Start technology’, you are good to go) yet still “delivers the power of a gas machine” than other conventional snow throwers.

Practical Features

Snow Joe Ultra SJ620/SJ621: Manual 180 degree Chute Rotation, Ergonomic & 4 Steel Blades

Both models offer a discharge chute (that is adjustable) that can perform a whole 180 degree rotation, so that you can position the height at which the stream of snow is produced by the Snow Joe -- essentially allowing you to shoot the snow to where you desire (through adjusting the chute to get the right projectile angle).

Furthermore, with both snow blowers weighing in at just over 30 lbs as well as being compact & ergonomic -- they are incredibly easy to control for direct use. It also makes them getting ‘in and out’ of storage (either from the shed or garage) a whole lot easier too.

Innovative Features

Snow Joe Ultra SJ620: Safety Switch, ‘Easy-Glide’ Compact Wheels.

Snow Joe Ultra SJ621: Safety Switch, ‘Easy-Glide’ Compact Wheels & Halogen light.

There are a few additional beneficial aspects with the snow blowers too, like the safety switch that can be hit if it accidentally starts up as well compact wheels for easy mobility. The SJ621 also comes with a 20 watt halogen light to help you see what you are doing, whilst you are working (obviously more helpful when it comes to snow blowing during an evening).

Further Information

Both Snow Joe snow blowers are backed on a two year warranty, so if any defects were to occur during that time you can have them fixed free of cost.

What are they meant for?

They are both built with the main purpose of clearing away regular sized driveways, patio areas & walkways (for the larger drives etc. you should probably check out the SJ623E).

The SJ620 weighs in at 31.5 lbs and the SJ621 weighs in slightly heavier at 33.3 pounds with the same reported dimensions: length - 24 inches by height - 20 inches and width - 21 inches. Moreover, both models are ETL inspected & approved. So arguably the SJ620 is actually slightly easier to handle than the SJ621, although probably not 'noticeably' so.

Average Review Rating (sourced amazon.com)

SJ620: 4.4 out of 5 (88%) from over 200 reviews.

SJ621: 4.3 out of 5 (86%) from over 50 reviews.

Conclusion - Should You Buy a SJ620 or SJ621?

So basically, the only difference between the SJ620 and SJ621 is the 20 watt halogen light that comes with the latter version of the Snow Joe -- which is priced at an extra 30 odd dollars or so. Therefore, I’d basically advise for you to go for the SJ620 and just do it during the morning or when it is light -- so you don’t really need to have the light in the first place. Given that, if you come across them at around the same price, I’d go for the SJ621 -- or simply whichever is cheapest from the two (you can compare their respective prices above).

Moreover, if you have any queries, remarks or concerns about either the comparison article -- SJ620 Vs SJ621 or regarding seeking specific/general advice about either electric snow thrower specifically (i.e the SJ620 or SJ621) then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section (which you will find just below) and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
