So you are sick, now what?

By Edited Oct 30, 2015 0 0

So you finally have admitted to yourself that you either have a terrible cold or the flu, but what if you do not have the money or time to go to the doctor's office? There are ways of fighting off a bad cold or flu with natural over the counter remedies, and these remedies do not cost near as much as a doctors visit. Give these few methods a try, you could be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Load up on vitamin D

Vitamin D occurs naturally in our bodies if we stay 15-20 minutes in sunlight each day, the problem is that most people are not doing this. This is especially true during the cold winter months when everyone is bundled up with coats and winter hats. The solution to this problem is to take vitamin D supplements, make sure to take the proper amount as many products say to take 400 IU per day. According to (Gucciardi, 2010) around 5,000 IU is a better dose of vitamin D. Take the vitamin d daily, this helps your body fend off colds and flu, and can help you get back on your feet.

Take garlic tablets

Now I know some people will be hesitant to take garlic tablets, the fear is that your breath might stink. The best thing about garlic is that there are pills that will not give you bad breath. Garlic is natures penicillin, and is really great for helping a person get over a cold or flu. Taking garlic along with vitamin d is perfectly safe, and you will have two different flu-fighting remedies working together to get you better faster. Take garlic daily, and do some research to find out what other ailments garlic can dispose of.

Take vitamin c

We have all heard about the benefits of vitamin c, but taking it when you are sick can be a big help in kicking flu symptoms. According to research (Grimes, 2009), taking 1,000 mg of vitamin c every hour for 6 hours can relieve flu symptoms. Remember, this is not just a take-when-you-get-sick type of cure, the best thing you can do is take vitamin c daily, even when you are not sick.

Cold and flu season can be a drag to most people, but staying healthy is easy if you put a small amount of effort into caring for yourself. The best cold and flu remedy is prevention, but if you do come down with a cold or flu there are ways to combat it before you have to see your doctor. Try these natural remedies, you will not only see that your health is better, but you will find that these remedies offer even more health benefits than you imagined.
