The minute your feet hit the floor in the morning, you are operating at top speed. Get the kids up, wrangle with them to get them ready for school, and in the meantime, the dog is barking to go out, the kids have resorted to bickering, you are trying to get breakfast on the table, lunches packed, and locate missing homework. Sound familiar? And this is just the beginning of your day. Now you have to find the time to jump in the shower, because you have a full-time job to get to-there is no lazing around for you! In the meantime, you stop to take a look around, and realize the house is a mess, that laundry pile is increasing steadily, dishes are piled in the sink, and the dog has made a mess, because no one got him out in time. Suddenly it dawns on you that you can’t possibly keep this up, and you need help.
Do you need a babysitter for the kids? A daily housekeeper to keep your home in tip top shape? A third person to take care of little details like running errands, taking the dog to the groomer, or picking up the kids from school? You need to stop and ask yourself if you really want all these people running in and out of your home at various times. What you really need is one person who would be willing to do it all, or at least enough to take some of the weight from you to allow you to have a semblance of normality and balance in your life. Do people like this exist? Yes, they do, and they are called nannies. Whether you want someone who is willing to work full-time, or a nanny who could come in for part of the day is up to you. You need to start looking around before your life is completely out of control, and the time is now.
Make the time to list everything you need help with, and don’t forget anything! If you prefer to have a nanny come first thing in the morning to get the day off to a good start, include that on your list. Maybe you would rather take over the morning routine and your nanny could come after everyone is gone. She could work throughout the day getting the house in order, taking over the task of household chores, running your errands, and be there when the kids get home from school. You might even find a person who is willing to get your evening meal ready to go, so that is one less thing you have to think about. If you are extremely fortunate to find a nanny who suits all your needs, she might even be willing to live right in or on the premises. That would certainly be ideal.
One thing is for certain-once you hire a nanny, you life is going to take a turn for the better. Unfortunately, many working parents find that once they have children, their lives tend to get a little chaotic, and nothing is as peaceful as it once was. If they both hold down full-time jobs, raising a family just became a little harder than they envisioned it would be. You can rely on family members just so often to help out, but they, to, have lives of their own, and the most reasonable option is to hire someone that works for you, and only you. If there isn’t a nanny service located near-by, that doesn’t mean you are limited in your options. If you have a computer, (and who doesn’t) you can start your hunt right online.
All you have to do is type what you are looking for into your favorite search engine. For example, “nanny services.” You are going to be amazed at the results you get, and now your search can begin in earnest. Browse the site and take a look at the profiles and pictures of candidates offering nanny services. If you see someone who has the qualifications you are looking for, send a message to the service that you would like to set up an interview, and the applicant will contact you. Conduct the interview as you would any other, asking for references, personal information, and contact information for past employers. Also let the nanny know that you will be conducting a background check, and if you sense any hesitance or reluctance to having this done, send this person on their way, and keep looking. By being thorough and selective, sooner or later you will find the one person who can make you life as pleasant as you hoped it would be.
