What Causes Hypothyroidism
There are basically two conditions that can cause hypothyroidism. This condition may surface as a result of a previous or ongoing inflammation of the thyroid gland which the leaves a considerable amount of damaged thyroid cells thereby rendering them incapable of producing enough hormones. The most common cause of the thyroid gland failure is known as autoimmune thyroiditis, a form of thyroid inflammation that is generated by the individual’s own immune system.
The other cause comes as a result of using a number of medications to treat hypothyroidism. Mostly, treatment of many thyroid conditions calls for removal of a portion of the thyroid gland or whole of it. If the total amount of thyroid produced within the cells is not adequate enough to meet the body’s needs, the patient will develop hypothyroidism.
While sometimes the surgery may remove the infected nodule, leaving half the thyroid untouched to meet the body’s demand for the thyroid hormone, it may be necessary to seek other treatment methods later in life as the thyroid may not keep up with the body’s demands.
Goiters and other forms of thyroid conditions can be corrected by use of radioactive iodine therapy. The aim of using this mode of treatment is to kill part of the thyroid and prevent the goiter from growing large in size or producing excessive levels of the hormone.
Most of the time, using radioactive iodine treatment to treat hypothyroidism is that there’s a risk of damaging too many cells and the patient can actually become hypothyroid within one or two years. However, the effects are much less compared to the original effect.
There are other causes of hypothyroidism with the predominant one being an instance when a completely normal thyroid gland is not producing enough hormones owing to the fact that there might be a problem in the pituitary gland. When the pituitary gland does not produce enough thyroid stimulating hormones, then it means that the thyroid may not be able to produce the hormone.
Conventional hypothyroidism medication involves artificial hormones, radioactive treatments, and surgical incisions in addition to other symptomatic treatments. Like any other treatment methods, these treatments have solemn side effects that call for regular monitoring and control.
Radio activity for instance has been sighted as a hypothyroidism treatment capable of causing thyroid cancer among other health complications.

Patients who used anti thyroid drugs before, during and after the therapy had their rate of hypothyroidism drop by about 10%.
Hypothyroidism and Infertility… Fertility is largely a hormonal issue. However, what most people fail to understand is that there are many factors that they have absolute control over which affect their hormones both positively and negatively. When talking about hypothyroidism and the ability or inability to conceive, two factors come into play; estrogen and progesterone.
A good number of the women population is aware that they require enough progesterone in order to get pregnant and maintain a healthy pregnancy as well. Progesterone increase considerably once a woman has conceived and continues to rise throughout the pregnancy. This is due to the reason that progesterone has a protective effect on the mother and the fetus.

Without the oxygen the development of the embryo is hampered.
It is therefore correct to argue that hypothyroidism and the inability to conceive are directly linked since one of the major effects of hypothyroidism is the increase of estrogen in the body. One of the negative effects of estrogen is that it restrains the release of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland, a process that is capable of causing hypothyroidism.
Once you become hypothyroid, the liver is not able to detoxify and inactivate estrogen in the right manner and as a result estrogen continues to build up in your system. It is this increase of estrogen that ultimately suppresses your thyroid.
Hypothyroidism is not the only condition that is associated with infertility. Studies have shown that endometriosis and infertility are linked and as a matter of fact 40% to 50% of women suffering from infertility may have endometriosis.
However, the good news is that both of these conditions are treatable especially if you seek infertility treatments early enough before the conditions deteriorate. You can seek treatment in form of hypothyroidism medication, surgical procedures, natural treatments and other radical treatment methods.
