Some Helpful Information on Vanity Units

By | May 17, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Vanity units serve as a sort of centerpiece where the sink rests. Its function is to store items like towels, tissues, sanitary napkins, tampons, cotton, body cream, bath gel, soaps, shampoos, brushes, powders, and other toiletries. To determine the size of the vanity unit you need, you have to define the kind of items that you intend to put in them (as well as their respective quantities). There are models that come with multiple compartments. You can choose the best one to fit your needs.

The shape and color of the bathroom vanity unit you pick would largely depend on the overall theme and size of your bathroom. Smaller spaces would naturally require narrower, more clean-cut, modular designs. Some vanity units may need to be customized to fit a spot with an awkward position, like an arched space.

A popular tone with vanity units is white, although, you can opt to be adventurous and try different colors such as olive, ochre, orange, and brown. If you are feeling particularly playful, you can dress up an existing white vanity unit with some attractive stencil work. You can pick whatever pattern suits your fancy. For instance, if you are following a jungle theme with strong hints of brown, yellow and orange in your comfort room, you can follow the same pattern for your bathroom vanity unit, and maybe stencil in some African inspired art or ethnic patterns. A daintier model could be given a floral accent, either through stencil work or by simple putting a vase of flowers on it. This could work for larger units.

The timelessness of a simple design for this type of furniture makes it a very good addition to your bathroom. Opt for the traditional modular model if you are uncertain of what to get. You can always add your little knick knacks to the side of it later on (e.g., a swinging mirror, some additional lighting, a painting, etc.).

In choosing a vanity unit, you have to remember to check if the material is waterproof. Even when you intend to position it in a dry area of your bathroom, the fact that it is in there exposes it to the possibility of getting wet (especially since it is under the sink). Be wary of certain models that are priced too low. Some materials are made of non-waterproof coating that tends to curdle and wrinkle in time.
