The Xperia Z is Sony's flagship phone and it was launched earlier this year. The Xperia Z has the highest specification of any Android based phone with its impressive five inch, full HD 1080p display, powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, and an Adreno 320 chip for processing graphics along with a stunning 13.1MP camera. The phone's screen is razor sharp and is exceptionally bright. The eye catching 5'' full HD Reality screen has a very high pixel density of 441 ppi which provides for great photo and video viewing. Videos are displayed in vivid colours and in high contrast with the aid of its Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology. However, the viewing experience of the display at an angle is not terrific.
The phone has a premium finish or feel to it with its stylish, durable slim design and both the front and back of the phone are made of glass. And despite the phone's large screen, it weighs only 1.46 grams thanks to its ultra slim design of 7.9 mm which makes it feel light to hold. The phone is available in black, white and purple colour. It's also worth mentioning that the phone is durable with its IPX5/7 (Water-resistant) & IP5X (Dust-proof) features. The phone comes with 16GB of flash memory storage which can be extended by up to 32 GB via its micro-SD card expansion slot. The phone's battery life is significantly improved by its stamina mode feature which conserves battery power by turning off functions and apps running in the background when the display is turned off. The voice and call quality is reliable with its HD voice functionality and is an improvement from previous models.
In terms of connectivity, this phone offers a host of features. The phone is capable of providing super fast LTE 4G wireless connections with its built-in LTE/4G modem. This phone supports up to 6 LTE bands (1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20) which provides reasonably widespread 4G coverage along with UMTS HSPA+ networks, GSM GPRS/EDGE and HDMI via MHL support. It also supports NFC which allows you to share music, photos and other media with other NFC enabled devices using Android beam along with supporting contactless payments. The phone is DLNA certified, it supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and WiFi Hotspot functionality and supports synchronisation via Exchange ActiveSync, Facebook, Google and SyncML.
The Xperia Z comes preinstalled with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system and not the latest 4.2 release. However it's expected that Sony will provide an upgrade to the latest version sometime soon. The phone comes preloaded with useful apps such as Google Chrome, Google Play, Google search, Google Voice Search, Google Maps for Mobile with Street view, Google Talk application, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
I particularly like the feature where the user can check the full specification on the phone by just a simple tap. Like most smartphones, the Xperia Z does have some concerns regarding battery life if it is not used efficiently when running intensive or power draining applications. Overall, the phone is very impressive with its high tech features and offers a great user experience for viewing videos in reality mode using its HDR image sensor feature.
Considering its high specification, an unlocked SIM free Sony Xperia Z phone can be bought at a very competitive price from reputable sites shown in my signature field. Finally, while the phone has a great specification overall, it does have some downsides.
