Spend New Years In A Yosemite National Park Lodge

By | Dec 4, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

For your next New Years celebration try planning a different kind of event. Instead of going downtown to your local party or getting together with friends or family consider taking a different approach and spend it out in nature. Many national parks have options and lodging including the beautiful Yosemite National Park Lodge. Because New Years occurs in the middle of the winter you probably won't be able to hike or drive up the mountains but down in the Yosemite Park valley the views are magnificent. There are many Yosemite lodging options available if you plan in advance and your family will likely never experience a more beautiful natural scene during the changing of the year again.

Yosemite National Park was the first national park created. President Lincoln founded the park system due primarily to the extreme beauty of Yosemite. Because the Yosemite Valley has not been incorporated the natural scenery is virtually untouched save a few park staples in the Valley and a few roads and cabins up the mountains. Your family can really have a true getaway vacation during the holidays by escaping the bustle of urban life and running off to the natural refuge of the park by staying at one of the many Yosemite National Park lodge options which are available.

Because of the popularity of the site and the scarcity of development in Yosemite Valley you really have to plan well in advance to get a reservation in a local park hotel, lodge, or cabin. Last minute holiday trips to Yosemite are possible but your lodging options get slim and your distance to the valley will likely increase dramatically. Because of this many people plan for their trips to a Yosemite National Park hotel months and even years in advance.

Throw in the added scarcity of lodging options in the winter and during the holidays and staying near or in Yosemite Valley will become very difficult without significant advance planning. This is not the same as making last minute plans to celebrate Columbus day with your family or go watch the fourth of July fireworks downtown. Most holidays are fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants affairs. Traveling to Yosemite for the holidays takes significant planning but the stay is ultimately rewarding and well worth it.

If planning is not your thing you don't necessarily have to find a Yosemite National Park lodge to stay in you can always take a day trip to Yosemite instead. If you are fairly local to Central California you can drive in to Yosemite from the main freeway in a couple hours and spend New Years in the wilderness rather than in the city. Trips to Yosemite in the winter are full of beauty but the elements decrease the amount of activities you can take part in. Camping and hiking options are fewer and thus day trips can make more sense in the winter compared to the summer.

In any event give some thought to making a change to your New Years routine this year or next. After all the time you spend visiting extended family and friends for Thanksgiving and Christmas take some time for yourself and your immediate family to get away from the world. Take a day trip to Yosemite or book a stay at a local YosemiteNational Park lodge for New Years and retouch with the simplicity and beauty of nature as you ring in the New Year.
