Spring Pike Fishing Tips
Many anglers absolutely love the challenge of going pike fishing. The northern pike is an aggressive fresh water fish that is known for putting up a huge fight, and for defending its territory. There are a variety of reasons why the pike is a popular game fish. A few of the most common include how easy it is to cath a pike (because of their aggressiveness), good taste of the meat, and because of the large size these fish can reach. Pursuing trophy pike for many outdoor anglers is not only a hobby or a sport, but it can become a happy obsession.
Spring is a great time to go pike fishing, and if you want to wonder why some anglers seem so happy right after ice break, it's because this is classic setting for trophy fishing. The northern pike loves cold water, and after ice break they are eager to feed and get more active back in the currents again. Because of this, it is much easier for experienced anglers to find a giant trophy sized fish during the spring northern pike fishing season as opposed to any other time of the year.
While most anglers agree that spring is the best time to go hit the northern pike, keep in mind that the exact months or time can vary greatly from place to place. The best pike fishing season in the state of Iowa or Minnesota, for example, will be very different from when the spring session starts in Ontario, Manitoba, or even Alaska. Europe has many northern pike, as well, and the spring ice break in Scandinavia will be a different time, as well.
Even within the same states, nations, or provinces, the spring ice break can be far different from one section to another. This means that spring pike fishing seasons can vary greatly from one place to another, but nothing changes the fact that there's no time like spring to enjoy active pike.
