Staying Motivated To Work At Home
If you work at home as an online writer or in any other kind of online business, there will be good days and bad days, meaning that there will be days when you make decent money and other days when you may not do quite as well. These fluctuations can be hard on your morale, but try not to let them defeat you. If you work from home, here are some tips for staying motivated on those days when you just don't seem to make enough money to justify your efforts.
1. Don't check your income statistics too often. For instance, if you have a Google Adsense account, it can be very tempting to check that account numerous times per day. This can be a very self defeating habit for several different reasons. For starters, you probably recall the old saying "A watched kettle never boils." In other words, if you keep checking your stats you are not very likely to see a whole lot of upward movement in the number of clicks and the amount of money that you are earning.
This lack of "upward movement" in your earning stats can really put you in a bad mood. And of course if you are in a bad mood, you can start to feel sorry for yourself. And when you start feeling sorry for yourself it is incredibly difficult to be productive by writing more articles (or doing whatever else it is that you do in support of your online business and/or work at home career).
Not only that, but all that time that you waste checking your earning statistics could be better spent writing blog entries or doing some article marketing or doing just about anything else in support of your online business or work at home career.
Try this as an alternative to compulsively checking your earning statistics: Set a time and a day, perhaps once a week or once every two weeks when you will allow yourself to check on your earning statistics with Google Adsense (or the Amazon.com affiliate program or any other affiliate programs you may represent). And stick with that checking time/day no matter what. If you feel yourself getting tempted to check more often than that, force yourself instead to do anything else that will help the bottom line of your online business.
2. In addition to avoiding compulsive statistics checking, just make up your mind to "stay the course." Keep your eyes on the prize (developing your online business or work at home career) and do not allow yourself to be distracted by anything at all, including "off" days when profits are down.
3. Consult your goals list and make adjustments as needed. Chances are you developed a list of business goals when you first made your decision to work at home and/or begin an online business. Look back at that list for some fresh motivation, and make any changes to it according to what you have been learning along the way.
4. Remind yourself that the time you are investing now will pay off later. Developing passive income streams via an online business is not something that happens over night. You need to put in the time initially in order to see results later. And once you do start seeing results, chances are you will want to do better and better, so those little victories as you move forward in your work at home career or home business will motivate you to keep going to achieve even more and greater successes. Remember, working at home to develop an online business is not for the faint of heart. It requires an enormous amount of "stick-to-it-iveness."
