Staying Warm During Winter Exercise

Stay Active All Year Round

How To Stay Warm When You Exercise In Winter

Winter can be one of the hardest times of year to find the motivation to get outside and get some exercise. It can be very tempting to just stay indoors, rather than venturing out into the cold and snow. With the right gear, though, it can be easy to protect yourself from the elements so that you can stay active all through the winter.

Wear Sunglasses or Ski Goggles to Protect Your Eyes from Snow Glare

It is important to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun on the ice and snow during winter, so investing in a good pair of sunglasses or goggles is a must. A sunny day in winter can be dazzlingly bright, so anything that will cut down on the glare is a must. Whether you just need sunglasses or a full pair of goggles will depend on how active you are going to be.

The inner layer of your winter clothing should be a moisture wicking garment, which will help you stay dry and comfortable by drawing sweat away from your skin to the outer layers of your clothing. Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester or other microfiber fabrics are the best choice, though wool can also be effective. Cotton garments do not wick moisture away as well and should not be worn next to the skin.

When the air gets very cold, it is vital to expose as little skin as possible when you are outside. Wearing a ski mask or balaclava will cover most of your face while still allowing you to see and breathe without any problem. Frostbite can occur very quickly on cold days, so protect the delicate skin of your face by covering up.

Snow Pants are Great for Staying Warm During Winter Sports

Snow pants are not just for little kids. These insulated pants come in adult sizes as well to keep you warm and dry when you are outside in the cold. You can find them in a variety of styles, from trousers to bib overalls. Wearing a pair of snow pants will keep you much warmer than just relying on a pair of regular pants or even wearing long underwear.

Consider Heated Inserts for Your Hands

If your hands and feet tend to get cold when you venture outside, you may want to consider wearing heated inserts in your gloves or shoes. These battery powered inserts will keep your extremities warm while you are active outside. Hands and feet can be among the first parts of the body that get frostbite, so these inserts can help ward off this danger.

A good set of wool or fleece outdoor clothing can keep you warm throughout the winter, no matter how much time you spend outside. As a general rule, you should wear three layers. The inner layer will keep the skin dry, the mid layer of wool or fleece will provide insulation and warmth, and the shell will protect you from wind and water.

Staying active all year long is important if you want to maintain a healthy body and a healthy mind. With the right gear, it can be much easier to stay comfortable when you are outside in the winter. Use the advice in this article to find the equipment you need so that you can enjoy outdoor activity all winter long.

Excellent advice. I'm going to Finland at the beginning of March and it is supposed to be very cold; it was -25 at the beginning of the month so this article comes at a really good time.
