Steak Secrets

Signs of a good steak.

There are a few things to look for when you are choosing a steak. Thickness is one of the first things too look at. Depending how thick a steak is will determine how long it will take to cook. Thick steaks may be very satisfying but they are also difficult to cook. The outside will cook fast but the inside will take longer. This may be too difficult to manage if you are just starting out.

To overcome this try cutting your steak up into smaller pieces before putting it on the heat. You can also cut the steak length-wise to make two thinner steaks.

The next thing to look at is fat content. The fat content will be a good indication as to how moist the steak will be. Depending how high the fat content is will help you decide how to prepare your steak. You may opt for a dry rub instead of a marinade, or maybe the opposite.

The quality of the steak is also very important when purchasing your meat. A high quality steak will taste better and cook better. A poor cut of meat can be improved through various marinades. The good cuts of meat require little prep, I would recommend a simple rub of salt and pepper.

The things to look at when choosing a steak are thickness, fat content, color, and tenderness. A new steak will be tender and have a nice rich color. The fat content should be medium. A medium fat content means there is enough fat that when cooked it will moisten up the surrounding meat. Too much fat and you won't be satisfied and the steak won't taste as delicious. The fat should be concentrated around the edges with a little interspersed throughout the steak. For more help on cooking a steak, check out this article.

Enjoy your steak and cook it how you will like it. The best steak is one that you enjoy!
