Starting your own freelance or contract business is a lot of hard work. Whether you work by yourself or you have a small team, you probably work more now than you ever did at an average eight to five job. But one of the great things about being a freelancer is that what you do is more fulfilling, as you can set your own schedule and you can choose with whom to work. Being a freelancer gives you the flexibility your other jobs could never give you. However, it doesn't come with the same security and stability. And while freelancing is a lot of work, there are tools currently available that can streamline your business efforts, increase your productivity, and better your organization.

Being a freelancer means that you wear many, if not all, the hats of your company. This includes taking care of billing, tracking inventory, creating or completing products and services, marketing and brand outreach, and restocking inventory. This can easily become overwhelming, even for the most advanced and experienced freelancer. But you don't have to be overwhelmed by your daily duties. The trick is finding the right tool that can help take some of those responsibilities off of your plate, or at least simplify your tasks so that they are more manageable.

It doesn't matter if you are a freelance graphic designer or you own your very own Etsy shop, using inventory software for your business needs can help you remain professional and on top of the demand. Because there are so many options when it comes to finding the right inventory software system, it is important to know what you need and what you are looking for. The right inventory software for you may be one that will allow you to build custom documents, such as invoices and reorder forms, and can help you with multi-level pricing and monetary conversions. Or maybe you need one that will allow you to create spreadsheets and then export those spreadsheets in a number of formats. Perhaps the right inventory software is one that will keep a database of all your bar codes and allow multiple users to access, which is perfect if you have a small team of professionals with whom you work.

What it really comes down to is you have to know what you are looking for and how you will use that software. Do not be afraid to test a few out before you decide on the right one for your professional needs. When you find it, you will know.
