Step by step method to improving your fitness

Being fit has many health benefits and an added side effect is looking great. It is also one of the best gifts you can give yourself - a healthy fit life. But what does it mean and how can we achieve it? To answer that question we will look at the definition of personal fitness and then explore the steps that one can take to reach their own personal fitness goals. Personal fitness is a combination of cardio fitness (how well you can take up oxygen from the air to use it to oxidize fat and carbs) and muscular fitness (endurance, flexibility and strength). Now that we understand what personal fitness involves, let's look at how we can achieve that goal.

  1. Make a decision to wanting to improve your personal fitness - If you don't decide that you want to become fitter and healthier and you aren't' committed 100%, you will be less likely to succeed. So make sure that you are 100% committed to your goals.
  2. Write down your motivators and keep visuals of it available - Write down your reasons for wanting to be fitter and keep it someplace where you can see it. Keeping visual reminders around will also help.
  3. Assess your current fitness levels - The following tests will help you to evaluate your current fitness: cardiovascular fitness test, muscle strength test, flexibility test, BMI and weight test and Waist to hip ratio.
  4. Write down your results of your tests in a personal fitness journal - Write your results of the tests and also the date down in a fitness journal.
  5. Set smart goals - Include weight training and cardio goals in your planning and make sure that you will be able to achieve them.
  6. Do your daily tasks - Make sure that you do the things you have to do daily. Writing them down in your journal will help.
  7. Keep track of your progress with your journal - Use jour fitness journal to track your improvements and also to monitor your progress.
  8. Have positive rewards - When you achieve targets or you see progress, make sure to reward yourself on a positive way.
  9. Stay motivated, dedicated and be persistent - Stay motivated by reminding yourself of your reasons for doing it and make sure that you do all your tasks regularly.
  10. Never give up and believe in yourself - Some days you may feel like giving up, but don't. Always believe in yourself and never quit.

You are bound to reach your own personal fitness levels by implementing the above steps. Just make sure that you do the things that you have to do everyday. Reminding yourself of your personal motivators will really go a long way to do this. Just remember to eat healthy and not to let your diet ruin your good fitness intentions. Your diet can make up to 80% of how you look, so make it healthy.

This is a great guide for individuals of all fitness levels. I find it much easier to stay dedicated and push myself if I set goals and write down what I do during each workout.
