When you think you may be bipolar, there are several things you can look at to either rule it out, or include when trying to make a diagnosis for the symptoms you have been experiencing. Many people who end up being diagnosed with bipolar are done so after many discussions with a qualified physician, and other disorders have been ruled out. If a patient has been keeping track of there symptoms for some time, this will make it easier for the doctor to diagnose. The fact is though, that most people do not keep detailed logs of recurring symptoms, therefore, the disorder must be diagnosed through trial and error. This is because there is no blood test or other definitive tests that will officially five "bipolar" results.

One of the things that can be looked at is family history. Bipolar tends to run in the genes, and is much more likely to be inherited if there are multiple members of the same family with a bipolar diagnosis. There is no exact reasoning that scientists can find in regards to who will end up with the disorder, and who will not. If it is in your genetic profile, there is nothing you can do to stop the onset of bipolar (though having a family history does not mean you will definatly inherit the disorder); however, there are precautions you can take if you detect the symptoms early enough. This will include seeing your doctor, letting him know your family history, and keeping track of the symptoms and severity of your mood changes in a journal. These things will help you in coping with bipolar syndrome. You can also be sure to keep yourself in environments that are stable and not loud and over stimulating. Keep yourself calm and around positive influence. If you notice any symptoms progressing, always contact your doctor, because keeping moods under as much control as possible, and keeping them from getting out of control, can help the progress of your bipolar syndrome treatment.

The key to having a positively progressive treatment for bipolar is to stay on top of the latest options, keeping good contact with your doctor, and taking medications as they are prescribed for you. You will want to find a bipolar syndrome treatment guide that will help you connect with others who are going through the same thing, or that can help you learn how to best cope with your symptoms, and your bipolar treatment in general.
