Strep Throat Symptoms
Strep throat can be extremely painful, and if left untreated for too long, it can also be extremely dangerous. Aside from being able to properly relieve the pain associated with strep throat, the avoidance of longterm health consequences is a good reason to be familiar with strep throat symptoms.
Here's how to tell if it's strep throat.
Red, irritated throat and tonsils.
One way to find out if your sore throat is strep throat is to use a flashlight to spotlight the back of your throat and give a great big "Aaahhhh". If your throat is red and inflamed looking, you may have strep throat.
You may need to enlist the help of someone else (the angle can be a little awkward, looking down into your own throat), be sure and tell them what they are looking for.
Fatigue.
You know that dead tired feeling? The feeling of being so tired that lifting your arms or moving your legs is a chore may be an indicator of strep throat.
Coupled with the inflamed throat, it may be a telling symptom of strep throat.
Body achiness; a feeling similar to the flu.
Another symptom of strep throat is the deep bone ache that is typical of the flue. If you have an achy feeling all over, along with a sore throat that is red and inflamed, or has "white spots", you may be dealing with a case of strep throat and you'll want to see your doctor as soon as possible.
The flu bone ache can be hard to miss; it can make a person pretty miserable. Coupled with these other symptoms, it's a red flag for strep throat signs.
Fever.
If you think that you might be coming down with strep throat, take your temperature to check for a fever. This can be a telling strep throat sign that your body is fighting something off.
Any time that you have found a fever, you may want to call your doctor to make sure it isn't a sign of something more serious. Especially when you have these other symptoms of strep throat, you should seek out medical attention quickly.
White pockets or spots around the tonsils.
Another typical and hard to miss strep throat symptom is the white spots in the back of the throat and around the tonsils.
Again, use a flashlight to light up the back of your throat and give a great big "Aaahhh" and look for these little white pockets. This is one of the most common symptoms of strep throat that can be hard to miss.
Your voice may start to go hoarse.
Sometimes when you are getting strep throat, you voice may start to go a bit hoarse. This tends to be a secondary symptom but if you notice your voice fading and the need to clear your throat more often, you might be coming down with strep throat.
If you think that you may have strep throat, you should go in to see your doctor immediately. This strep throat symptom list is by no means a diagnostic tool and should not be used as such.
Strep throat symptoms can quickly escalate and if you wait too long to seek medical attention, you may be sorry.
