Stretching Exercise Routines for Women - Why Women Need to Stretch

If you are a woman who has decided to carry out a regular exercise routine, you should plan to include in that routine a series of warm up exercises. Frequently, a series of warm up exercises calls for the performance of some stretching exercises. When a woman stretches her muscles, she helps to strengthen them. When a woman has stronger muscles around her joints, then her bones enjoy added support.

Why is it especially important for women to work on getting and maintaining stronger bones? Women should work on developing stronger bones because they are especially susceptible to osteoporosis. By taking the time to engage in regular stretching exercises, a woman can better reduce her chances for developing osteoporosis.

Now if you are a woman who has decided to begin a exercise routine with a series of stretching exercises, then you ought to perform stretches that adhere to an established pattern. You should stretch in a manner that produces results, without causing harm to any of the tissues in your body.

You might, for example want to stand next to a wall or a large pole. Place your palms on the pole or the flat surface and bend your arm muscles, while you stretch your leg muscles. This simple exercise follows the basic guidelines for effective stretching.

Alternatively, you might try sitting on a soft surface. Bend your legs, so that your feet touch. Then slowly move your feet closer to your body. When you feel a tug in your groin muscle, they you need to stop, and move your feet in the opposite direction.

You will note that in the above examples, the exercising female does a static or passive stretch. She does not suddenly throw a limb in one direction, and then snap it back to its former position. When a woman stretches, she needs to look at each muscle as a rubber band. What happens when someone stretches a rubber band too far?

When a woman stretches, she should strive to feel a "tug" on the stretched muscle. She should avoid stretching any muscle to the point where she feels an unmistakable pain. She should forget the saying "no pain, no gain." What insures the most benefits to the woman who decides to stretch is her willingness to perform a stretching routine on a regular basis.

When a woman stretches, she should not try to hold her breath. Instead, she should breathe continuously and rhythmically. She should incorporate in her routine a certain amount of muscle tightening. If you follow the above guidelines when doing any stretching exercises, then you will derive real benefits from what seem to be very simple exercises. You will be better prepared for engaging in the rest of your exercise routines.
