Studying for the Multistate Bar Exam

What do I need to do to pass this test?

Oh man, I hope I pass

I passed the Bar Exam in Pennsylvania 3 years ago. Unfortunately I now live in Hawaii, and that test that I passed is now useless. It has been a couple of years since I took the test, and I am gearing up to take it again. Last time I took the test I was straight out of Law School, and had both time and money to burn, so I spent 10 weeks in a $4000 BarBri course, and passed the test no problem. So if that is an option for you - that is really the way to go.

This go round, however, things are different. I have neither the time to throw away, nor the money to throw away on the course. So, what do I have to do. Well, first thing I realized - books from 1 or 2 years ago are almost exactly the same as new books. SO - I searched for the BarBri books (relevant to the Hawaii Bar Exam - they are all different) USED on eBay, Craigslist, and Amazon, and finally found a set for $200. I got them shipped 5 months in advance, and spent about 2 hours a day studying them for the last 5 months. Sure I will miss 1 or 2 questions where the material I am studying is wrong, but I am going to miss 30 or 40 questions just because I don't have any idea how to answer them ANYWAY. So I saved at least $1400 on the books right there.

Second - I found some other books as well - with practice Multiple Choice questions from PMBR for under $5 each. I bought 4 of them. I do practice questions regularly, and get used to doing practice questions, so that I can get the ins and outs of the multiple choice format. Again - I spend no more than 2 hours a day (for 5 months - and I can up it in the last month to 4 hours a day). I have a full-time job as a teacher, and a part-time job working security. I am not a student anymore, but that doesn't have to be a major setback. I understand that the 10 week course works, but so does a consistent program of regularly studying the material. Finally - I practice an essay question every week, for the last 20 weeks, by using the old exams which are available online, just do a google search. These are the keys to passing the exam - preparation and practice tests. It can be done without the BarBri course and with some diligence and hard work.
