Posterior tibial plays a role in supporting the arch of the foot. Peroneal tibial has a function in controlling and regulating the outermost side of the foot ankle. Extensors enable the ankle to raise the toes thus helping to step forward. Flexor muscle works in conjunction with extensor muscles and they have a crucial role in stabilizing the toes of the feet against the surface of the ground when preparing to take a step forward. The available small muscles in the feet allows for the lifting and curling of the toes which is part of what happens during locomotion.
