If you have an internet based business or a significant web presence, you know how important getting listed in search engines can be. The best advertising and marketing you can do is done by submitting to search engines.

Banner ads, radio ads, newspapers, press releases, email, and newsletters can never have the same result as search engine marketing.

Search engines will sometimes find your site without you doing anything. However, you usually have to manually submit your site to the search engine to be indexed.

Now, there are many many companies who promise to submit your site to hundreds and thousands of search engines for you. I don’t trust them - and you shouldn’t either. You have no guarantee that your site is REALLY being submitted. How do you know they are not just taking your money and sending you a false submission report?

The best way to submit your site is to do it yourself or hire an expert who you know and trust to do it manually. This is done by personally contacting the search engines and directories.

Before you start the submission process, make sure your site is professionally designed. Ensure that it is easy to navigate and has relative, compelling content. NEVER submit a website that is incomplete. If you do, a search engine may index your incomplete content and THAT will be what people see when searching for your site.

Also ensure that you choose the right keywords for your content. If your site is about computers, don’t use ‘elephant’ as a keyword. That wouldn’t make sense! No. If you write about computers, you could use keywords like ‘technology, computing, computers, office’ etc.

Once you have done these things, you are ready to submit to search engines.

There are several software packages that will help you submit your website to search engines on a massive scale. You can also visit the search engine websites and submit your site there.

Search engines to keep in mind:

Google
AltaVista
Excite
Bing
Cuil
Dogpile
