Subsidized Student Loan
What is a subsidized student loan?
A subsidized student loan is a loan given to students who are financially in need of money for college. While similar to other student loans, there are some differences that makes this type of loan stand out. Like other loans, a subsidized student loan has a sum money loaned to you with interest. Unlike other loans, however, while you're in school, you do not have to pay for the interest that accrues during that time. The government or other entity will pay for your interest while you're in school so that when you graduate you only have to worry about the initial principle. So basically, a subsidized student loan is a loan with interest where someone else pays for the interest until you graduate and your grace period ends. After the grace period, you start paying back the loan and the interest it accrues after graduation.
How much money can I borrow with a subsidized student loan?
The answer to that is: not very much at all. Unlike other loans, subsidized student loans can have very strict caps on how much you can borrow. An unsubsidized student loan will give you $4,000 to $6,000 more per year than what you can get from a subsidized one. So, in order for a lot of students for to pay for school if they're resulting to subsidized student loans is that they have to combine their subsidized loan with another type of student loan or scholarship to be able to pay for school.Other articles you may be interested in:
