At some point, in the
wedding planning, the bride and groom will need to figure out the
theme of their wedding. A theme can be as simple or as elaborate as
you like. They can be summer in winter or winter in summer, Hollywood
glamor or 1930s vintage styles. Themes can even be simple colors like
black and white or green and black.
A summer wedding theme in
winter sounds a little odd, but it's really a fantastic idea. The
winters where I live are horrendously cold. Wind and snow batter the
land for nearly nine months of the year. From January until the end
of April the cold is so harsh it often reaches twenty-five below
zero. It's during this time that everyone looks for an escape to
warmer climates. Trips to the south and Mediterranean are common in
these months. It's the perfect time for a summer theme. Summer
wedding reception ideas for winter weddings need to make guests feel
light and happy.
A summer theme can be
expressed in a number of ways. The first way is to inform the guests
through the invitations. Another way is through the dress style of
both the bride, bridesmaid, groomsmen and groom. Yet another is the
the decorations in the church and reception hall, including the
flowers and cake.
A fun and feisty
invitation with, perhaps, a beach ball and photos of the beach is a
great way to introduce the guests to your theme before they arrive. A
simple note along with the reception directions that state casual
beach wear attire, will let the guests enjoy your theme more
thoroughly. Remember that although it's a summer theme, it can still
be formal. It's important to notify your guests if the wedding is
black tie or semi-formal.
Brides and grooms each
have a separate color of clothing so as not to blend into each other.
A terrific way to incorporate a summer theme is to have the entire
wedding party dress in summer attire. A strapless dress works
perfectly for summer themes, as well as sheath dresses and thin
silks. A bride can wear any color, including yellow and pink, then
have the groom and groomsmen in white suits or tuxes.
Red and yellow are
beautiful colors that bring to mind summer and spring. A lovely
mixture of red wedding flowers and yellow wedding flowers could make
the reception hall look magnificent. If you threw in some fruit
centerpieces, it would be the ideal summer themed reception
decorations.
Don't be afraid to think
outside the box. Just because you're in the middle of a snowstorm
doesn't mean you can't devise a warm reception.
