Summer is a time of shedding heavy clothing and showing some skin. Summer brings out shorts, short skirts and tank tops. The summer brings all kinds of weather including rain and heavy sun. It also brings bugs like mosquitoes, flies and other nasty little biting bugs. With all the different types of weather, a good set of summer clothes can't just include shorts, skirts and tank tops.

A summer wardrobe has to have a number of different items, especially if you live in a climate that often changes. Besides the usual summer items, shorts, linen pants etc, you'll need raincoats, jeans, long sleeve shirts and dresses, among other things. Unfortunately, not many of us can afford a brand new wardrobe every summer, but there are many different ways to find summer clothes for cheaper prices. You can purchase the clothes online, new or used, or you can purchase locally, neew or used. There are benefits and disadvantages to both.

If you purchase online, you can always find a greater variety of clothing year round. Sites do not have to make room for new seasonal merchandise like department stores. This means that if you're going on a summer vacation, you can buy whatever you need at any time, without paying excessive prices for out of season clothing. Clothing online is often much cheaper than local merchandise as it has a greater amount of competition information immediately available. While the clothing itself may be cheaper and readily available, there are some things that make buying online a disadvantage.

Buying clothes online means that a) shipping and handling charges need to be factored into the cost and b) you can't try the clothes on for the perfect fit. You can avoid both problems by simply shopping at merchants that offer free shipping and using accurate measurements when comparing to merchant size charts, but that won't help if an item is unflattering when worn. The only way to see if a product looks great on, is to try it on. Of course, if it doesn't flatter most merchants will accept returns, however, you'll have to pay the shipping both ways.

Shopping locally has the disadvantage of smaller variety and the advantages of instant gratification. They also are at a disadvantage for price as they have a greater overhead than online shops. However, shopping locally means easy returns and the ability to check what an item looks like when worn. For example when purchasing sundresses at a local store you can find a dress that fits perfectly, looks lovely on, but you get home and decide, for no reason or for any reason, that you changed your mind. At this point you just drive back to the store and return it. If you purchase it online, you'll have to pay to return the dress.

The bottom line is that there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of shopping and it is up to the consumer to decide if they can afford the extra money or the risk of a poor fit.
