Sunless Tanning and Sun Exposure Both Cause Cancer

By | 3 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Sunless tanning gained popularity after it was discovered that sun bathing caused skin cancer. This revelation intensified research for sunless tanning. Today it is widely believed that sunless tanning is safer than natural sun exposure. This simply does not make sense. The validation is that dihydroxyacetone is safe to use on the skin. This is what the FDA says and I guess we can take that for fact.

The problem is that the FDA blatantly gave a thumbs up to sunless tanning yet does not regulate tanning salons or anything else that is used in sunless tanning solutions. It has been proved that excessive sun exposure does in fact cause skin cancer. Recent research results have also proved that many dangerous chemicals are used in sunless tanning products.

The use of spray tanning booths has also been criticized and blamed for causing young people to have skin cancer. Tanning beds causing cancer is pretty much old news now. But it has been proven that ultraviolet radiation is linked to skin cancer. The writing is actually on wall, both sun bathing and sunless tanning are dangerous. The only difference is that sunless tanning is being promoted as if it was a gift from the gods.

It is not and the research implicating alternative tanning for causing cancer is more than troubling. The FDA should regulate tanning salons and if not then they should regulate exactly what goes inside the tanning solutions. The way things seem now is that the FDA is giving a endorsement to sunless tanning.

As a spray Tanning technician, I have to say your article hits on some very important points. The FDA has stated that spray tanning does not cause skin cancer, however, at this time no one is aware of the potential dangers of inhaling DHA. Safety of yourself and your clients really should be the first thing on your mind. Using common sense and certain equipment can greatly reduce any inhalation of DHA. Make sure your customers wear nose plugs. The technician should always wear safety glasses and a mask. Have your client hold their breath when you get near the face. Most importantly use extraction fans. They are there to pull the over-spray away from you and your client. Using HVLP equipment also helps to greatly reduce over-spray. Their are many ways we can protect our clients and ourselves from breathing in these products. You can get all of these products through EnvyTan's website. EnvyTan's customer service representatives are very knowledgeable and have helped a great deal to educate me on safety and product knowledge. I just wanted to pass a little of that knowledge on to you. Happy Tanning!

NEWSFLASH..The FDA DOES regulate tanning salons. How about a bit of research before you write an article. Not only does the FDA regulate tanning salons but the state regulates them as well. In fact, we have MORE regulations than Tattoo parlors that cut people open to pierce them. Secondly, again..do your homework. I would love to see your "study" or "research"that shows tanning beds cause skin cancer. You won't be able to because there is none. Why don't you bash birth control? They are in the SAME cancer risk category as the sun, red wine and sardines. How many people drink wine or take birth control? YES...they are in the SAME risk category. Look it up. The sun is natural to the body and the processes it uses it for. Sorry...would much rather get natural sun than the chemicals. This scare is getting totally ridiculous.
