Swim Spas: Exercising It Up in a New Way
Not many people know about swim spas, but they offer a new way to exercise in a pool environment. A swim spa is available in many sizes and often come with hot tubs included with them.
One reason to get a swim spa is its size. It's a lot smaller
than a swimming pool, so you can place it in a smaller place in your backyard.
And they don't cost as much as swimming pools. You can even put swim spas in
your home and enjoy the privacy of swimming and exercising. Also, you don't
have to dig a hole to put in a swim spa as you do a pool. You simply put it
together yourself, and then hire a plumber to put in the plumbing necessary to
make it work. This saves you a lot of money and effort.
Exercising in swim spas is like exercising on a treadmill. You swim in the swim spa but stay in one place, although if you have a large enough one, you can do short laps. The water's swirl, created by jets similar to those found in hot tubs, pushes against you, creating pressure you have to overcome in order to feel the burn. And you most certainly will, because the force of the jets will make you work hard. Just think of how hard you can exercise on a treadmill; you can do the same in a swim spa.
The pressure of the jets in swim spas is also adjustable, so you can decide how hard you want to exercise. Pulsate the jets hard for an intense workout or make them less powerful if you are just beginning to exercise in your swim spa. Either way, you'll tone your body with less stress than you would running on a treadmill or doing other types of aerobic exercise outside water. Water, as you may know, is gentle on your joints and muscles, as well as therapeutic.
You can also do other aerobic exercises in a swim spa. Try using a kickboard and really make those legs work hard. Or use a pool buoy to help your arms get toned. You can even hold onto the edge of the swim spa and pull your knees up to your chest, thereby working your abdominal muscles. Indeed, you modify any exercise you might do out of the water in a swim spa – all it takes is a little imagination.
More and more people are discovering swim spas; they not only allow you to exercise, but also provide you with hydrotherapy. Much like a hot tub, a swim spa soothes your muscles and joints. You can also set the temperature you want to use, from warm to cool. It's all up to you. No matter how you choose to set it up, you'll love the exercise you get from swim spas.
