Symptoms of attention deficit disorder

Attention deficit disorder is a a common neurobehavioral disorder found in bth children and adults. It is also known as Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) .Generally, people with ADD are hyper-sensitive to touch, sounds, light, even the tags on clothing. The disorder is typically found in children and sometimes last through one's adulthood also.

Children affected with ADD lacks attention and concentration and often struggle with their studies. Studies have shown that approximately 5-10% of school going children suffer from attention deficit disorder. Many parents don't understand this problem and becomes frustrated easily. Adults with ADD lack organizational skills and suffer from depression, mood disorders, substance addictions, anxiety, and problems in social interaction.

Attention deficit disorder is caused by certain naturally occuring changes in brain anatomy and function. Heredity, exposure to environmental toxins, drug abuse and smoking during pregnancy can also cause ADD.

The common symptoms of attention deficit disorder are

The affected children may show difficulty in focusing attention in organizing and completing a task .

They pay attention to everything irrespective of whether it is relevant or not. This causes distraction.

They may have trouble controlling their behaviors and do things in a hurry often causing problems.

Children may appear sluggish, lethargic and slow to respond and process information. They spend a lot of time daydreaming.

Some children may find it difficult to sit at one place for a long time. They often move their hands or feet restlessly.

There is no known remedy for attention deficit disorder. The tratments can only control the signs and symptoms of the problem. However, if the disorder is identified at the right time, the problems associated with ADD can be alleviated to a large extent.
