Global System Mobile or GSM is the old cell phone technology which has been able to stand the test of time and evolve along with the development of advanced technologies.

This is probably the widest and most used mobile phone technology in the world amongst the three main mobile technologies, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and TDMA included. T-mobile used both GSM and CDMA but boast of its wide array of T mobile gsm phone options.

Most mobile gsm phones available today are tri-band phones or quad-bad phones. Cell phones are similar to radio, they use sound waves so that your conversation can be transmitted from one device to the other. These sound waves can travel at different frequencies it depends on the network carrier and the cell phone device you are using.

There are four frequency bands for the gsm phone namely, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. 1900 MHz is being used here in the US but recently some areas have been using 850 MHz as it has better range than 1900 MHz.

T-mobile does not have its own 850 MHz service but then it has agreements with other cell phone networks who have their own 850 MHz that some of the T-mobile gsm phone users are able to use this frequency band since a lot T-mobile cell phones support this frequency.

Outside the U.S., other countries use 1800 MHz and 900 MHz so gsm mobile phones that support these frequencies can be used not only it the US thus making the gsm mobile phone the perfect phone to bring when traveling as you do not have to buy a plan but just a sim card of a local cell phone carrier in the country you are visiting.

GSM technology is indeed roam ready and fraud free since it uses a sim card but in order to be considered the superior cell phone technology, it has to keep growing with the challenges brought about by advancement of technology.

T mobile gsm phone users can definitely count on T-mobile to stay updated with the most up to date gsm technolgy. Before you buy a cell phone be sure to compare cell phones to find the best one for you.
