“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give life a meaning.” - Jean-Paul Sartre
When you never take responsibility for your actions you are never really in control of your life’s journey. To improve your life requires the full awareness and responsibility for your actions. Always hold yourself accountable for your actions. Always be aware of your inner thoughts and never allow yourself to believe that your decisions are out of your control. That is never true.
The most important understanding you will need to know of taking responsibility for your actions is to be aware that you are in control. You are in charge. Each event in your life is the result of choices you have made. External circumstances are sometimes uncontrollable in life, but taking responsibility for yourself and your actions gives you the power to improve and change those circumstances for the better.
Blaming and criticising others means that you are deliberately passing the responsibility on. This can have a negative outcome for every area of your life as it allows you to hide from your issues rather than confronting them. A simple change of mind-set from “someone else is responsible” to “I am the only one responsible for my life” is a very powerful move in the right direction. The past is unchangeable but as long as you take responsibility for your actions you will be able to reflect and learn from the mistakes you made. This will give you the confidence to move forward in life without the fear of failure.
If anything is going to move forward in your life you are responsible for making that happen. You are responsible for your own life; no-one will take that away from you but no-one will take responsibility for your actions either. The sooner you are able to accept this the sooner your life will move forward.
Facing reality is not going to be easy. Taking responsibility will force you to look away from the “victim tag” and tackle the problems that you have been running from. Once you have accepted the responsibility you will have the power to steer your life in the direction of your choosing. The obstacles in your way will become exciting challenges rather than burdens. It is up to you to give life a meaning and it all starts with taking responsibility for yourself and your actions.
